Anybody read this?

A friend of mine recommended it to me recently (Mark Dunn, copyright 2002, Anchor Books) and I just finished it. I just found it to be a totally delightful book.

Ella lives on the fictional island-nation of Nollop where, for reasons better left to the book, the letters of the alphabet are, one by one, being outlawed from use. The book is told as a string of correspondence between various characters, each note they write to each other having to be written with fewer and fewer letters as the book progresses. It’s at times hilarious, yet is also something of an allegory about governmental power run amuck.

I think anybody interested in the written word would get a big kick out it. It’s easily readable and rather short if you’re looking for something fun to pass some time with, yet something with a bit of meaning as well.
