Looking for a Short Story

I am looking for a childrens short story about a catastrophe that kills anyone over the age of 15 or so. The world is left with only children. The main character is a girl with a younger brother who, while all the kids are playing and eating candy etc, gathers food and fortifies her house etc. She ends up setting up a community in a highschool building and becomes the leaders of the children. Teaches herself to drive....has to battle against the different sects of children set on malicious behavior etc. I have not read this story myself, but a friend is deperately searching for it. If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate a response. Thank you.

I've been kicking a few related phrases around Google, and The Girl who Owned a City by OT Nelson appears to fit your description quite well. Not quite as good a fit, but still a possibility, is Neptune's Children by Bonnie Dobkin.

This really sounds like a serial a friend of mine used to watch.I don't know,it may have been inspired from a book.It is called "Tribu"(but that might not be the original title,however).Well,sorry for being unhelpful...
