I'd love to have durable, and most importantly easy to read font, hardback copies of stuff like Jane Austen or Charles Dickens, do these exist?

There are some good series for those authors, like Wordsworth Classics, Penguin Classic or Oxford World's Classics, but I think they are mostly paperback - and, alas, have small print. I like them, though - they have brief and often interesting introductions (especially the OWC), which is an added bonus.

I really like the new Oxford World Classics series of books. As well as the Penguin and Everyman's Library collection.

If you can find them, the older Modern Library collection is also a possibility. Some volumes are still being published and can be found at the bookstore, but many older copies of the less-saleable authors are hidden in the shelves of used bookstores, as well.
For Greek and Roman authors, the Loeb Classical Library is still available.

The Penguin Classics font isnt nearly as small as the Penguin Popular Classics collection. The Coverof the PPC's has changed to this really light paper cover which truth be told is NOT an eye catcher, but it is very light on the hands. And they are very cheap incomparison to most.

They are expensive but didn't you ask for "nice books"? In this case you get what you pay for. You can buy them cheaper on ebay but bidding is always intense for these books and heavy shipping costs can contribute to still quite high a price even for used volumes.

I completely forgot about those! I'm always getting mail from them trying to get me to buy their books. They are nice from what I can tell.
