Comparative essay pick your own books (as long as they are at least 30 years apart) and your own question. I'v had some ideas but was supposed to have decided by now and its getting a tad stressful.

I was thinking of maybe doing something within the gothic genre. I quite liked turn of the screw but then what books and what question. Someone suggested I do the beach and grapes of wrath but I can't see how there linked. Then I started thinking about maybe doing into the darkness but then I don't know what question or what books.

Teachers have been extremely unhelpful and I'm just very confused. Any ides?

Just grab two books that were published at least thirty years apart, then find something to write about them. Personally, I would use A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court and Lest Darkness Fall.

If you want to do something related to the gothic and/or horror genres, a good idea would be to pick a classic work (like Horace Walpole's "The Castle of Otranto", which is considered one of the founders of gothic) and something more modern, like James's "Turn of the Screw", or even some recent stuff like "The Beach" or one of Barbara Vine's creepy works. Then you could pose the question of in which ways the elements of horror have evolved, and in which ways they have remained the same.

Hope this helps!
