Is Gilgamesh a hero or not a hero? That is the question. Is a hero suppose to be selfish and self centered? Or could a hero be someone that cares not for his/her safety for the sake of others.

A hero is supposed to be selfish and self-centered? We are certainly confused here. We have thought that that was not an important thing in a hero's CV, but well, you live and learn.

Gilgamesh? We believe that at the beginning is not a hero, but meeting with Enkidu starts inner development and so he fights monsters and stuff to get his city a wall. Which, We believe, is an unselfish and a good deed. So Gilgamesh is a development novel. First he is selfish, then he is caring for his city and then, after Enkidu's death, he becomes anguished and starts thinking about life and stuff.
