Torn Cobwebs and Other Delicate Things.
Locked in rooms musty
or open to light,
innocence, horror,
despair and delight.
Every vice now extant,
which is known
unto man,
to the noblest aspirations,
the gamut is spanned.
All can be found
at an address in the mind,
so be careful, when looking,
as to what you might find!
Broken cobwebs,
or fountains
replenishing youth,
be wary the lock,
your key
wishes to choose.
We all have
some memories
we would wish to forget,
to be sealed up,
bricked over
to help fade the regret.
A few we recoil from,
as not worthy of thought,
for they invite further devils,
inside our crumbling fort.
The mind,
a beautiful thing,
when it is healthy and whole,
but diseased,
when tapped lightly,
a cracked crystal bowl!
Seal tight up your nightmares,
in a dark remote place.
Then, locked in forever,
they need never be faced!

In a sidewalk crack
on a busy street
a dandelion grows.
It ducks, it weaves
it twists away
from ten thousand,
marching toes!
That poor lone weed
spends all of its time
staying out of the way...
Of high-heeled shoes
and workman's boots,
to which it might
fall prey!
Tis the best part of
a fortnight since,
above the concrete's rim,
It shyly poked,
a tiny petalled head,
to take
the wide-world in!
Now it trembles, shivers
at near every sound,
all its leaves and seeds
have shed.
'Cos...by any degree
of betting odds,
that little bastard
should be dead!

a consummate brilliance
holds the eye.
streaking newborn star children,
meeting sequential deaths
in trails of fading beauty!
my sadness is tempered with awe.
a stirring of surprise.
a latent questioning
of God's purpose.
levelled in the fleeting
seconds, it takes each,
momentary, heavenly firefly,
to extinguish.

I like this very much, Goldenrod. Thanks! :)

Thanks for the comment. You appear to be the "lone ranger" on this triplet!

I like your 'triplet.' I like the third one the best. In the first one, I like the idea of a diseased mind as a 'cracked crystal bowl'-I know mine is! I also like the idea that we can lock our nightmares up forever-'they need never be faced,' which is so contrary to how we understand we are supposed to work toward mental health-by facing our fears. Yours is a much more comforting idea! I also like your second poem about the lowly dandelion existing against all odds! Well done.

You are such a nice poet and indeed rich in your wording and syntactic style

Glad you found something to take away from the "triplet".

Termoil around here at the moment! Getting ready for a vacation and, shortly after that, moving house. Who said we don't go in for deep planning around here!

I particularly like "Torn Cobwebs and Other Delicate Things." The idea behind it and choice of words and images is brilliant.
