Well I can probably offer you some suggestions (as can a great many others here) but it might be more useful if we have some idea where you are coming from. What sort of books have you read? Who are some of your favorites among older writers? D you have a preference for narrative fiction to the exception of everything else, or do you also read your share of poetry, non-fiction, etc?

A couple contemporary books I really enjoyed are Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides and A Heartbreaking Work Of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers.
And my favorite contemporary author is Tom Robbins

I have The Wind-up Bird Chronicle, but I have not read it yet.
It's a great book. Murakami is a master at blurring the line between real and surreal.

When dealing with contemporary literature,I somehow found this to be the golden rule: the more the book is advertised and the more famous its author is,the less of a chance for it to be a good read,i.e. Dan Brown,Paulo Coelho,Michel Houellebecq etc.
Anyway,my suggestions would be: I,Lucifer by Glen Duncan(nothing too special but still a lot better than most of the stuff being published these days), My Name is Red by Orhan Pamuk,The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon and anything by Haruki Murakami.
Also,I know it's not contemporary fiction anymore, but I feel the urge to recommend A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole,it's a great book.

I found Houellebecq quite good at his "The Elementary Particles", but agree on others -Brown, Coelho-.

I really, really love Richard Russo--[/i] Empire Falls, Bridge of Sighs and Straight Man[/i] were all wonderful.
Tracy Kidder writes literary non-fiction--but I have yet to read anything of his that I didn't think was fabulous.
I also find David Lodge's books riotously funny.

I agree with you partly, when I was searching top contemporary books and writers I read top-books (I mean most famous ) I can,t find anything interesting, but I appreciate Paulo Coelho,s some books his some books are really worth to read

Hmmmm... if you like Coelho, you may find the authors recommended to you here not to your taste... Old Paulo isn't very popular in this forum
Good luck with your suggested reads!
