simple me

A book to read
a hunk of cheese
a timbrel's sound
the ear to please

A glass of wine
stony hillside bred
a taste of corn
unleavened bread

Simple as
these pleasures be
they are enough
for simple me

The master
in his fine construct
gourmet tastes run amuck
on the rarest provender only sups

No simple pleasures
fit for he
no simple acts
idle reverie

This gentleman
to his own pursuits
in elegant coat
high polished boots

For all simple men,
their simple roots

Now as to which
you'd wish to be
high born Lord
or serf like me

Which of us
will more contented be
he who has and wants
or...simple me?!

Lovely, Goldenrod. Simple is good enough for me, too. :)

You pose a tough question! Why not start us off on some more elementary ones, such as why the ways of the wicked prosper, or how to reconcile Gravity with Quantum Dynamics. But as to the rhetorical question you ask, one might like to believe the implied answer, but can you be certain that he "who has and wants" and seeks and gets more and wants still more is not, after all, the happier man?

No, I cannot guarantee it! There are exceptions to every rule, plus, if the truth be known, I cannot define "happiness".:)
