hello, I am studying A-Level English literature, for my coursework i hav been asked to compare two text....the novel i have chosen to study is The silence of the lambs and was going to compare it with John Fowles "the collector" but i recently found out the novels need to be written at least 30years apart, and to my dismay the novels i had initially chosen are only 28years apart.
so i was wondering if anybody could recomend a novel or a poem, that i can compare with silence of the lambs which i believe was published in 1991. so your suggestions have to be written 30 years earlier. thanks for your time.

If it doesn't have to be a long narrative text, you might have a look at 'The telltale Heart' by Edgar Allan Poe. You could compare how the psyche of a murderer is dealt with.

I suggest you read Horacio Quiroga's "The Feather Pillow" or "The Decapitated Chicken"; they are gripping and sinister short stories, written around the turn of the century.

For that matter, you can also use Fyodor Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment. It is a brilliant work of literary merit and would surely impress professors.

littleNic, id say, if i were the teacher and a student came to me with two books 28 yrs apart as opposed to 30, id let it slide...maybe you can go back and ask your teacher, saying hey, id really like to use these two books?
