What book(s) do you want to get/ask for for Christmas? I would like to get a book by Soren Kierkegaard entitled, Fear & Trembling.

How about you? ;)

Why restrict myself to wanting a few, I prefer the greediness of the miser and want them all.

A special edition of Boccaccio's 'The Decameron', which I think is a true masterpiece, ahead of its time...

Actually, I thought that one was pretty boring. It's somewhat nice at first, as the Decameron's format kinda resembles that of Arabian Nights, but unlike this one, after you read 3 or 4 days (each has ten short stories), you begin to feel that you've already read the whole thing, as the remaining ones feel like carbon copies of the first ones. I bought it to read it, and after finishing it, I gave it away, something which I'm not used to do.
Anyway, I hope you like it more than I did. :)

Ah, I loved The Decameron, which I read only a few short months ago; I recommend the Bantam Classics translation, if you can find it.
As for my wishlist of books: I only want a gift certificate to my favorite bookstore - a very large one! - and I may decide then what to get, for, at the moment, my list stretches so long.

Goes to show how differently we perceive things I guess... As a rule I do not buy books and take full adavantage of the libraries in my area. However, 'The Decameron' is one of the rare books I bought after reading it very first time. I find these stories quite mischievous and witty, especially considering the time they were written. Yes, I guess I do like it more you did! :p

Mono> I have a Penguin copy of the book at home but maybe sometime I will try the Bantam version a try sometime as well  Thank you! :)

Mine is huge also, it's kind of like a museum. I look at my list sometimes and remember when I was on cetain reading "kicks". Glad I'm over The Beat writers.

As for my list, I'm reading Henry IV part 1 right now so I guess I would wish for Henry IV part 2 and Henry V. Oh and I saw the new Micheal Creighton book out, I can't remember the name. Oh and the Rachel Ray 30 minute meals cookbook. Oh and Jon stewart's "America- The Book".

I concur about America: The Book, but it's not Jon Stewart's. It's the entire Daily Show staff. :)
Though after reading Jon Stewart's "Naked Pictures of Famous People", I can definitely pick out some parts of it that had to be his.

Which one did you prefer ? I might buy ''Naked Pictures of Famous People'' but I'm not sure...

It's a tough choice but I'd probably go with "America". "Naked Pictures" is a series of uhm, I'm not even sure how to describe it -- little essays, stories, and just incredibly random writings. It goes from Martha Stewart's tips to keeping a tidy vagina, to a transcript of an internet chat, to a short story about revenge, etc. It's all over the place.

I found "America" to be funnier, as "Naked Pictures" mostly got a few snickers from me here and there but "America" had me outright laughing my head off at a few points (though this could also depend on your sense of humor, since "America" pretty much points out that which is ludicrous in the U.S. government and history). But it's quite a bit more massive and I still haven't gotten all the way through it, whereas I tore through "Naked Pictures" in a few hours.

So I suppose "Naked Pictures" is maybe a little more readable as far as books go but "America" would probably get you more bang for your buck.

I actually have read America. (loved it) I was asking you if ''Naked Pictures'' was worth your money. I got my answer anyways, thanks. :)

My grandparents give each of us money to buy our own gifts, which we then have to show them what we got on Christmas Day. Works for me!

This year I picked up:

THE MANDARINS by Simone de Beauvoir
THE WINTER'S TALE by Shakespeare
THEIR EYES WERE WATCHING GOD by Zora Neal Hurston
ANSWERED PRAYERS by Truman Capote

Also bought THE LANGSTON HUGHES READER, but it's a gift for my good friend. I'll probably have to borrow it at some point.

I asked for WISE BLOOD by Flannery O'Connor and will probably get it- other than that, we'll see. My family generally has good taste, we'll see if they pull through. :)
