In the Summertime by Mungo Jerry:
http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=zc9wIzi96_E
Barbara, I was just about to post the Mungo Jerry song. In The Summertime is the quitessential summer song and how I know summer is really here. :)
Ok, my next choice is "Sunny Afternoon" by The Kinks. I include youtube video and lyrics.
Sunny Afternoon
by the Kinks
The taxman's taken all my dough
and left me in my stately home
lazin' on a sunny afternoon.
And I can't sail my yacht
he's taken ev'rything I've got;
all I've got's this sunny afternoon.
Save me
save me
save me from this squeeze
I've got a big fat mama
tryin' to break me.
And I love to live so pleasantly
live this life of luxury:
lazin' on a sunny afternoon
in the Summertime
in the summertime
in the summertime.
My girlfriend's run off with my car
and gone back to her ma and pa
tellin' tales of
drunkenness and cruelty.
Now I'm sittin' here
sipping at my ice-cooled beer
lazin' on a sunny afternoon.
Help me
help me
help me sail away
or give me two good
reasons why I oughta stay.
'Cause I love to live so pleasantly
live this life of luxury:
lazin' on a sunny afternoon
in the Summertime
in the summertime
in the summertime.

Heh sound like interesting songs. But maybe too much joyous when thinking about the weather in summer we have here. :p
Are there any summer songs with the mention of people being cooked/roasted due to hot since well there is often exaggeration in many of the songs and a little bit of exaggeration in words like this can be needed to describe the mood of a hot summer? Now that would be more like a thingy of my interest. :p

I know many people have already mentioned "Summertime," but my favorite version is by Me First and The Gimme Gimmes. The beginning always reminds me of the Pulp Fiction soundtrack
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3ON7ENCgIM
My absolute favorite, though, is "Cruisin'" by Smokey Robinson. I used to love waking up early summer mornings and driving out to the beach with this song playing.

Two more, in addition to the ones I mentioned earlier. When I was younger, my family would spend our summers down in the Florida Keys. During one of my favorite stays, I was listening to The Greatful Dead's Skeleton in the Closet and Bob Marley's Natural Mystic. So any song from either of those albums make me think of summer, but I'll just give you my favorite from each:
Friend of the Devil - Grateful Dead

and Time Will Tell - Bob Marley

Some songs that to me make it feel like summer whenever I hear them, though for many not specifically referencing summer in the lyrics:
You Stole the Sun From My Heart ~ Manic Street Preachers (http://youtube.com/watch?v=jwZ6MzvDVf0) (I was at this performance - 17y.o. just graduated high school & pissing around at festivals befroe starting & dropping out of Glasgow Uni)
Red Red Wine - UB40

Breakfast at Tiffany's - Deep Blue Something (http://youtube.com/watch?v=sDwmCFgoiE8) (more just memories of a summer)
Scooby Snacks - Fun Lovin' Criminals (http://youtube.com/watch?v=JVSrPEL_zmk) (another of the festivals I enjoyed that year - warning lyrics)
Margaritaville ~ Jimmy Buffet (http://youtube.com/watch?v=T1GVIcKvZSM)

football crazy ( possible terrible football club?)-- by Robin Hall and Jimmie McGregor
nothing on youtube but that was a fun song... ill have to dog out the cd when I get home
I know that:
FOOTBALL CRAZY
1. I have a favourite brother
And his Christian name is Paul.
He's lately joined a football club
For he's mad about football.
He's two black eyes already
And teeth lost from his gob,
Since Paul became a member of
That terrible football club.
CHORUS: For he's football crazy. he's football mad.
The football it has taken away
The little bit o' sense he had.
And it would take a dozen servants
To wash his clothes and scrub
Since Paul became a member of that
Terrible football club.
2. In the middle of the field one afternoon
The captain says, 'Now Paul,
Would you kindly take this place-kick
Since you're mad about football?
So he took forty paces backwards,
Shot off from the mark.
The ball went sailing over the bar
And landed in New Yark.
3. His wife she says she'll leave him
If Paulie doesn't keep
Away from football kicking
At night-time in his sleep.
He calls out 'Pass, McGinty!'
And other things so droll
Last night he kicked her out of bed
And swore it was a goal!

Well to me, summer always means kinda mellow music. I love summer days in Australia. (although it is still winter here! :p)
Here's one of my favourite mellow summer songs: New Shoes by Paolo Nutini:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmbUNF1Q4R8
Also this is a newish one, Daylight by Kelly Rowland ft. Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes, but I like it and it'll be something I listen to this summer, and it makes me think of summer :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yd6kSXKo-4
And this one - they made this before they got big, hence the not so good quality! :p (I always listen to this in summer, fond memories with it :)) Taxi Driver by Gym Class Heroes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGYCY48Tugw (some of you might find all the references to bands - there's over 30 band names mentioned!)
I know there's heaps of songs that I listen to in summer, but since it's the middle of winter I can't think of what most of them are! (And I never noticed before that I listen to different music in different seasons! :p)
