alzheimers' threnody

I am the dying echo
of my past.
All overt memory,
fading fast.

Narrowing my reverie,
as life's hidden
prompter,
gives up on me!

I roam the valley
of despair,
not even knowing
I am there!

What passed for joy
in mist dispersed.
I now live a death,
among the cursed!

This is a scary poem! i think it shows very well what a person suffering from alzheimers would be going through.

Really well-written, goldenrod. Good rhyme and rhythm.

Depressing too. Pretty much describes the way Alcheimer's patients go. So sad to imagine. One of those things you wouldn't like to imagine but they exist.

This is hauntingly beautiful. I am hoping it is not about you, but if not you, it must be about someone you love dearly, so that is not good either. How very interesting, that title. Again, beautiful.

Scary yes, but there is hope...for the future, at least!

Hard to imagine indeed! Alas, having worked in a hospital one came in contact with this condition in all of its stages...

As you can see from the above answer to "Pensive", not members of my family. However, some friends were afflicted with this monsterous disease, as the hospital is community based.
