All plays are available online on our site:

Please vote for the play you would like to read by August 31st.
Everyone, lets discuss before we all vote for different plays and waste our votes.

Well I would like to have one of the less well known ones this time round, or maybe I mean less studied in whats it called mandatory schooling... Id quite like one where I didnt already know the storyline because its that integrated into everything like Romeo and Juliet for example ( that is I DONT want to do Romeo and Juliet ) or Ceaser, Anthony and Cleopatra
I hope ths make sense....

I am going to vote for Merry Wives of Windsor:
1. I haven't read it and am not even sure what it is about.
2. I like the title.
2. Don't mind if it is not elected at the end either; it is no big deal. It is one play; not a life-time commitment or Presidential election or sumfing.
So go Merry Wives of Windsor!

It's too soon for me to vote, and as I am reading and re-reading all of Shakespeare's plays. Maybe his last play, henry VIII or the Two Noble Kinsmen, or hmmmmmmmm.... let me see, I can do someething, I won't read The Merry Wives of Windsor and this becomes the last play for your (Scheherazade) sake :D

I must admit that MWOW is the only Shakespeare play I've read that I can say I really didn't like.

Hello Shakespeare Discusion Group,
One little question:
I've seldom read Shakespeare in the past (just a few plays in highschool and college) but am really willing to read more and this discussion group seems like a great oportunity.
My only doubt is whether or not you have to be a Shakespeare "expert" to join this group and your discussions?
I've been looking at some of the plays availvable online and i seems that as far as understanding is concerned, I'm ok. But, will being a Shakespeare "illiterate" be a problem?

Nothing to worry about. Almost all of us here are casual readers, Lugdunum. We'd love you to join us (and vote for Merry Wives:D:p;))

I know it won't win, but I had to go for Measure for Measure, since it is a play rather displeased with comedy and one which baffles me.

Having just travelled to Stratford to see a fab (if disturbing) production of The Taming of the Shrew I'd be fascinated to see the ensuing conversation...:)

I would like to remind everyone that this poll will be closed on August 31st.
Voted to balance the polls, as The Merry Wives of Windsor is perhaps the weakest work by Shakespeare, and I really wish to read something else (if someone wants their Falstaff fix, they should read the Henry IV plays).

Humm....don't know what to vote for now. I will read MWOW and let you know if I like it, Scher. I always wanted to read it but have not gotten to it either, Virgil. I like Falstaff very much in Henry IV, but not sure what I will think of him in this MWOW - it is a comedy, right? I have read many of the plays on the list, so if I don't vote for that one, maybe another one will catch my fancy. One of my favorite plays actually is "Richard III" - now there is a true thriller! But if you are looking for comedy, instead, I will think on that awhile.

With Scher's passionate persistence I might just vote for Merry Wives.. :p
But on another note, I remember reading Measure for Measure a few years back and faintly recall being entertained by it..hmm..Let's see..

Merry Wives and Mechant of Venice are now tie.....if someone wants to throw a kitkat my way I could be persuaded..
Janine
08-14-2008, 07:23 PM
Not anymore...it is now 4 to 3. I voted yesterday. Since I always find 'Merchant of Venice' a bit difficult. (sorry Payapahed - not even kit kats will help), with the Jewish issues and often heated discussions insue; so I decided to vote safe and went for MWOW...a play I have not yet read.

I am hoping for it; it is one I have not read yet. I like Falstaff also in Henry IV. He is such a colorful character. It should prove to be a fun read.

Really, I don't know why I'm doubting and waiting so much if I have no clue about most of S's plays I might as well go with the flow and vote for MWOW :p, as Merchant of Venice is one of the few I have read.

If I were to vote, it would be for Merchant, but I do not wish to deprive those wanting to read MWOW (despite my feelings for it) so I may abstain

 I'm not going to vote since I can't promise I'll have the time to participate, but I'm going to try and be around for this. I like most Shakespeare, so I'm easy in that sense. I look foward to reading with you, and Someone please send me a note on the choice in case I forget to make it back here. The proverbial kick in the bum if you will;)

Scher, I like your new avy; but will you switch it back to MWOW photo when it wins?Probably not. The new one is just for this weekend (Geek Day and all). After that, I will probably go back to being my humble-fairy-self.
Going twice...

Scher - that is fine - we all like that 'humble-fairy' that is you! Your original avy is prettier, anyway.
You know, I have been hunting for this poll thread for the last 1/2 hour and could not find it - I kept putting the word 'Shakespeare' in the search and here it was under 'Shakespearean'...why did I not think of that? duh... At anyrate, on my search I ran into all kinds of other threads, I had not read before; made for interesting reading - there was even a thread where T-shirts were being sold (a number of years back) with the plays or the sonnets printed on them. Do they still sell those, and the other items?

Oh thanks, Admin. I found the link somehow by accident and looked around the site. Interesting stuff. Only thing I could not seem to locate was the actual sonnet T-shirts.
