To introduce myself. My name is Jordan, I'm from California, as you can probably tell already. I'm looking to start reading more, I am just looking for recommendations on books and things of that nature, so if you'd like to help I'd appreciate it. If you want to know anything about me, just ask. :D

Hello and welcome! I can only give you suitable recommendations if I know what you've already read, and enjoyed. Do you like poetry, drama, shorter or longer prose forms? Which topics, periods, countries are most interesting for you?

I am really looking to start with some stuff from William Blake and Edgar Allan Poe, and also anyone that is similar to them? I'm pretty much open to anything I guess, I'm really looking for more classical stuff (anything B.C. to the mid to late 1800's.) I also want to learn about Greek Philosophy, and I ordered 2 books today, one being Plato's The Republic and the other being Plato's The 5 Dialogues, both of which I am very excited to read. I always enjoyed reading when I was a kid, but I kind of fell away from that when I got older and when high school DEMANDED you to read, it kind of turned me away from reading. Now I am out of high school though and am actually interested in reading, so I hope that this post gives you enough information on what you need, if not feel free to ask me more. Thanks. :)

Hello and welcome, Jordan!
I don't know if I'm the best one to give you book recommendations. I read classic French literature, mostly--not a lot of Greek stuff.
I know what you mean about disliking reading when it is obligatory. I always looked really hard for the joy of reading just to read, and tried not to think about the quiz that was coming up...but you lucky duck, you're done with all that! :)
What took you to Bakersfield?

Yeah I'm so glad to be done with it. :D I've lived in Bakersfield my whole life. :)

It's a nice area. I've driven through a couple of times. So, you are out of high school; do you have plans for college?

Yeah it's pretty fun here I guess. I am actually doing a Christian correspondence course right now, a "College" that my Dad took a few years ago, and I am getting a degree in Biblical Studies.

Well then, you will hopefully want to read some philosophy; I have made some recommendations elsewhere that might be of use to you in your studies. I would imagine that at some time, you will want to learn Greek, and having read some ancient philosophers might be helpful.
Cheers,
John

That's really awesome. I've sorely neglected my Biblical studies of late. What do you plan to do with that?
