Hm. I'm not so familiar with his quotes, but doing a little research, I found a few I liked.
"All right, then, I'll go to hell."
"Be careful about reading health books. You may die of a misprint."
"A man cannot be comfortable without his own approval. "
"Don't let schooling interfere with your education."

'Instrumental song' is an oxymoron. But I'll go with Poulenc's Oboe Sonata from 1962..

Favorite portrait artist?

bounty

laughs...north star you would be the one to answer that one!

in the states we use the term "instrumental" to refer to songs with no words/lyrics.

by the way, I grew up watching the tv show M*A*S*H, and one of the characters in the later years, major Winchester, absolutely loved classical music.

am far from knowledgeable when it comes to portrait artists, but I did get to visit the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and do have a genuine like for Rembrandt. so Rembrandt it is.

(would you consider Remington a "portrait artist" I wonder?)

favorite cake?

I know, I know.. But the people who refer to instrumental pieces of music are still wrong, even if they are Americans ;)

I wasn't previously familiar with Frederic Remington's work, but I think they may be considered environmental portraits, although it might be that they're more genre paintings, i.e. I am not sure how the models' attributes show in the works.
Rembrandt is definitely among my favourites as well. I bought the Late Rembrandt National Gallery / Rijksmuseum exhibition book recently, wonderful reproductions and insightful essays.

Favorite cake: Mom's date cake.

Favorite poem?

It might be God's Grandeur, by Gerard Manley Hopkins. Either that or "There once was a man from Nantucket...", the literary equivalent of dog's playing poker.

And bounty, I agree about the name Siobhan, though I'm mostly impressed you knew the names of any of the members of Bananarama, which is more than I do.

I have been sitting here trying to think of one and drawing a blank. In part it is because I can't narrow it down to just one, and in part it is that my mind is so tuned out of Hollywood these days that I'm stumped. For now, I'll pick one of them, which is Vincent Cassel, 'cause of those two movies he did about that French terrorist which, if you haven't seen them, you're in for a treat.

Favorite meat dish? (Jessica Rabbit, I know.)
