Why do you stand in the shadows of love?
It was yours for the taking but you choked
And now the moon is your mistress
As it lights up your dawn

The birds sing the chorus of another new day
Grieg was the architect of reminiscing
The feel of sunlight on flesh
When the blues were chased away

But you’ve been running too long in the sea of life
Maybe it’s time to take the plunge
For the bottom is the top of everything that it seems
But you and I were torn at the seams

Now why do you wait in a lover’s hope?
For the one who never noticed the snow grow cold
The flames of passion mark frozen skin
Where no one can touch and no one can come in

Time was once your dearest friend
That was before fear got in the way
The changing of the guards is reflected in your face
And what once will soon be is

But the world cannot hold you in its grasp for long
Ahead of timeless, I see you run
And all the poison from a serpents tongue
Refresh life where you end and where I begun

And now it’s time to head for the moon
The apple on your head is the with which you aim
If only you could splinter this frozen sky
Which touches the soul and blinds the eye

So slip inside the quiet night
Oh holy holy sweetest sound
Of the seasons turning round
To see who is sneaking up behind

And everything you said to build your temple of Babel
Comes crashing down with each spoken fable
The vitality of existence is lost on you
We are the weak and we pity you

So hide your face inside your broken hands
You were just a child and he was an old man
You’re too young to feel this pain
You spent too long lying in the drain

But you believe in the redemptive quality of the rain
To wash away all your sin and shame
But you were given shelter against your will
And the water falls futilely into your drought

And now the angels falls to their knees
St Michael came riding back up the hill
Bruised and blooded, it’s clear that he’s lost
And his home is now owned by another name

And locked in your tower your golden locks to grow
Abandoned to beauty and the ugliness of pride
The prince came a-riding to scale these walls
But you were too busy reflecting the ego imperfections of your soul

And your mind is a fragile toy
With which you barter for food
That turns to ash on the touch of your lip
And your tongue broken by the lies you spin

You left your castle to find a home
You thought that all roads would lead you to the gold of Rome
But you were deceived by the helpful one
Who gave you salvation in the form of a shot in the arm

But was it he that fell as your walls were overcome?
He fell on you with lust and your towers was his new home
But you were left out in the fog
That masks the lines on your infantile face

And the look that he gave you when you asked for more
A backhand and you only saw black and blue
So you put your hand through this windowpane
And your reasons for doing so have never been more plain

You joined a new religion that prophesied about green men
Who could take you to their Promised Land
You changed your name and sheered of your golden locks
And gave away everything you’d kept in reserve

You became a child of the night
The lights and glow was your redeeming wish
But the fairy godmother was a crook
Who stole from you what you wanted no women to have

And the men came looking for you in the dark
Of the neon glow and caked on makeup
Never once did you make up your eyes
Which is why you wore shades to hide the truth inside

And this carried on for a thousand years
But never once did your heartbreak
Never did once did your heart beat
You became the living impaired, the politically correct name for zombies

And the time that you thought was running out so fast
Slowed right down when the watch was wound
Your dignity lost to some street whore
Who answered by the name tag that you wore

Yet still you wait for the prince
Who came to save you when you were in the tower of peace
Yet you were always too young to know what you want
And what you were given only shielded the cost

And now my princess lost in time
A myth of the near future or a legend of Greek times
All I have to offer is my bed of golden leaf
Located near where the lamb comes to drink

The streams flow forth into this barren land
In your wide eyes astonishment I see you break a smile
Do you even remember how it was done?
How your face felt light and joy unspun

And now you lie beneath the sycamore trees
That shields from harm you and all you want to be
Dressed in a lace gown of snowdrop white
Flowers in your hair forming a crown

The buttercups glow and reminds you of a life you once knew
But all that is gone like the wind and rain
Now you no longer await the monsoon
For life flourishes everywhere, even inside of you

A little baby boy in your hands so small
Looks up at you with a gurgle and cough
Wasn’t this what you always wanted? His eyes seem to speak
As he hold your finger in his hand and leads you away into dreams

Dreams where the clouds look up from below
At you flying so high, as an eagle over mountain tops
The warmth of the sun fills your frozen bones
And you think maybe oh maybe this is the love I’ve been waiting for
