Hey y'all!
As a present from my 10th grade graduation my father and stepfather are going to take me book shopping. I have some book ideas but I wanted to try some new books too. Do you guys have any suggestions to what I should buy?
Thanks!
(Ps. I love books dealing with vampires, werewolves and/or the supernatural. I love sci-fi! But I HATE Dickens and books dealing with the humdrum lives of boring individuals.)

The Merry-Go-Round by Joshua Bruening...
You can find it at amazon / barnesandnoble . com
It's worth checking out!

If you like sci-fi, check out anything by Philip K. Dick or Ursula Le Guin. If you haven't read "1984", "Brave New World", or "Fahrenheit 451" yet, try one of those.

I asked my boyfriend for advice and he is recommending George RR Martin. It's fantasy and even though there are no vampires of werewolves (at least so far in the series), it is a very dark world. Maybe you'll like him. :) Maybe worth a try?

Try some Haruki Murakami. He's great. 'Kafka on the Shore' and the 'Wind-Up Bird Chronicle' are especially good, and have many supernatural themes.

Oh, and also, Edgar Allen Poe is a good bet.

Try some Thomas Hardy; "Far from the Madding Crowd" is a good introduction. Or, if you're looking for something a little more philosophically challenging, "The Outsider" by Albert Camus - just finished it myself and I would highly recommend.
Let us know what you decide on! :p

Libba Bray wrote A Great and Terrible Beauty. It's a trillogy. And The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, and The Bourne Ulltimatum are good.

I do. The Host is a great book.
I do love Garth Nix (read most of his works), I'm still waiting for Colfer's new book, on June (or July) 15th, Douglas Adams is awesome too but I don't really know those other people, maybe I should give'em a try.

I've read only one of his books, The Blue girl, but I love it, if his other works are any similar, why not?

The EarthSea series was one of the first things I read as I was learning to speak english, I love it so much! I liked The Left Hand of Darkness too. However I've never read anything by Philip K. Dick or read 1984, the hype about it is so great I'm afraid to pick it up!

Already read them. :) (Ps. I loved Matt Damon in the movie of the books, he rocked!)

Oh, I love him. Read him in 7th grade.

If you haven't already read it, the Twilight series is a good pick. Also, the Vampire diaries by LJ Smith are pretty good.

Try Ray Bradbury's short stories; there's a volume called "The golden apples in the sun". His "Dandelion Wine" is also wonderful.
And, BTW, hating Dickens is a big mistake ;)
