Do you prefer doing it the old-fashioned way of writing in a notebook or typing?

Truthfully my heart lies with the old fashioned way - a long pen with a feather on top, an ink jar and pieces of paper :)

Unfortunately, I am a slow writer and a fast typer and I find when I am typing I am able to control my ideas better, so that is the route I usually take.

(Poetry is always written though)

Writing with a feather is indeed a passion, yet using a computer is a convenience. I choose this latest technology.

The thing with typing is that it would mean using the computer and the internet, which is extremely distracting. On the other hand, my writing would be messed up by numerous cancellations and whatnot if I were to write with a pen. I usually write my drafts the old-fashioned way and then transfer them into the computer for editing - not that I write a lot.

I use both. Quite often, a written outline or just a series of "clouds" and arrows and lines between phrases jotted down a very large sheet of paper is where I begin. It is only after the schema and flow of the subject matter is sufficiently outlined in my mind that I begin to use my keyboard. In the process of actual writing, I find the word processor to be far superior to actual writing out by longhand, if for no other reason than it allows the re-arrange of text and replacement of words and phrases with others so quickly and easily.

Most of the time I use Computer, and it depends on what I write. Often the draft is on paper.

I always use the computer, conviennece is a huge factor in my writing. Not to mention the plethora of online writing aids and easy acces to my friends for ideas(MSN:D).

Both - I am inclined to type more as it is faster and more convenient, yet good old-fashioned writing with a pen carries too much charm for me to abandon it. So I try to combine them. ;)

Oh, I'm typing, rest assured about that. If you could see my handwriting you would understand why: It was not very good to start with, and due to poor joints it has slowly but surely turned worse over the years.

I prefer writing things. Although for assignments for school I tend to type it first, because I do that best when I'm under pressure... So I do the good copy first on the computer, and then write out a draft... I know thats not exactly the best way to do it, but it tends to get me good marks!!. But I always keep a pen and paper close by so I can write down ideas faster when I'm typing! :)

I usually use Microsoft Word for writing (including story outlines) but I do draw cartoons and comics on paper (kind of off topic, but not really).

Although I rarely write anything (on computer or otherwise), these posts have given me valuable insight. For whatever little I do tend to scribble, I prefer pen and paper to the keyboard, mainly because as Cipherdecoy said, technology is much too distracting. Another thing I've noticed with typing is that it makes editing so easy that you are never sure of yopurself. You get this nagging feeling that with a little bit of touching up here and there this could've been said a lot better. Paper has more permanence and brings out your character better, especially when you are writing letters.

When it comes to jotting down ideas I prefer a pen and scrap paper or notebook, and this applies to poetry too since I find that when I write poems they're as best as they can get when raw... Sometimes I actually type the poem / idea into my cellphone since sometimes I can't pull a pen out.

As for other things though, like essays I prefer the computer, and I love the sound of clacking keys... It makes me feel productive (even if that may not always exactly be true!). Still, I don't mind the pen and paper thing, like when I'm in school, et cetera. I can keep up with my thoughts using whichever method, even though I usually end up with pages of chicken-scratch looking scribble.. Hey, at least I can understand it! My penmanship isn't bad but sometimes I'm just too lazy to write (yes, I admit it!).

Both, for similar reasons to jgweed's. Scribbling is good when you aren't sure what you're doing. Notes can quickly turn into much more finished work than you'd intended. No pressure to be linear can result in crystalline linearity.

Typing is good for speed and editing. Everyone should learn to touch type. It makes you way fast, it's fun and it's pretty easy.

I preferred writing on a piece of paper. But nowadays I write stuff on my phone if I don't have my laptop with me. I don't know why, but yeah, that's how I write now..
