Inamorata! sweetheart!
The one I dream of,
All fit my lady,
Like a glove.
Not that every perfection
Doth dwell there,
But, she is the one,
For whom I care!
Oft times capricious,
Quicksilver moods,
Sometimes accepting,
Sometimes, a refuse!
Whatever her wont,
What e'er her will,
I try my best,
To best fulfil.
Certainly, no same two peas
In a pod,
Antithetic, but,
Still in love.
Her charm, part perversity,
Part tenderest solicitude.
At no time knowing,
Which one she'll choose!
Honey, mustard, vinegar bite,
Any or all might be my plight!
And yet,
She knows how well to mix,
That magic potion,
Which holds me transfixed!
She is the only one
For me,
And better served,
I'll never be!

goldenrod, I find the rhythm of the poem to be quite suited to the person of whom it's about. When reading the poem, one is never certain what twist the mouth might make to produce sound, it really goes well with the content of the poem.

Ah, so the love of your life is a redhead? I believe your poem must please her very much, just as it would please any strawberry or auburn haired lass, including me. I adore the "honey, mustard, vinegar bite"...look out. I think men are afraid of redheads. ;) ;) Not only are you a good poet, you are a brave one. :D

When I met her, when we were both on vacation, she was the reddest red-head in "The Barbados"!

Somehow you rescue this from sounding too far from its place in time. I liked it. Perhaps begining with a word like Inamorata sets a proper stage, but it also made me think of that old song with the line, "...he married the girl with the strawberry curl and the band played on."
Thanks Golden
I adore the "honey, mustard, vinegar bite"...look out. I think men are afraid of redheads.
I still remember a date I had in high school with a red head named Claire who remains among the best kissers I ever kissed. She was fireball though, but as Goldenrod so brilliantly describes that can be very interesting.

Funny...I had that tune running through my head when I was penning the title! Saw the movie with James Cagney? Many moons ago.
