Once when I was ten
I remember
playing on our front lawn,
spinning barefoot in
the cool clover with my friends.
Then came the sucker punch,
the white hot agony,
the hopping on one foot,
wondering what happened.
Oh, little innocent honeybee,
little harbinger of fear,
what did you think as
you went about your business
that day?
as you breathed you last,
were you as outraged as I?
Now looking back,
fear again lodges
in my heart, in my throat,
as we Brobdingnagian humans
ponder our own
cause and effect;
I ask you, please,
dear lilliputian honeybee,
come back,
and scare me again.
can the world still spin
without you?

With honey being the only food that never spoils, I'm on the side of the honeybee. I hope she makes it back!
As usual...the fair sex does all the work!

Tom the Cat
Tom with tiger stripes, enormous eyes
greets me on tiptoes, face upraised,
eyes searching, white diamond on his
nose glowing. Startled he
leaps like a rabbit,
meows, then waits
for a pink
belly
rub.

Topher
Topher-when he was born I didn't
even notice him-small, commonplace,
gray; he would meow at me, eyes
crossed; in this way he nosed
me from the pack, chose
me to be his
number one
human.
Me.

Kudos for Honeybee! A very original way of presenting their plight.
Loved the kitty poems too. I have a gray tabby that selected me in the same way.

I like the last line. This speaks of something that is universal truth. The world exists because we exist for we are the world. Separation is just an illusion.

Thank you-that is the thought I was working toward. (I started to post a new poem here, but am moving it to a new thread)
