I am writing an "extended essay" in english for my IB diploma.

Initially, I thought I would write about the development/theme of betrayal in two works and compare them.

I thought about Othello, but it turns out I am really not good with Shakespeare.

Any suggestions for poetry, novels or plays that have well developed themes of betrayal that won't be to hard to read?

Or any other themes/plays you suggest?
I'm getting frustrated because there is so much out there! :(

Thanks

Most of John LeCarré's books are about betrayal. Try Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy or The Spy Who Came In from the Cold.

Hmmm... I'm not sure about what you mean by "hard to read". Reading, at least for me, always means commitment and attention.

There are of course many types of betrayal, but here are my suggestions:

A play: Arthur Miller's "The crucible".
Two poems: Sir Robert Aytoun's "I loved thee once, I'll love no more..." and Sir Thomas Wyatt's "They flee from me".
Four novels: Ian McEwan's "Atonement", Paul West's "The very rich hours of Count von Stauffenberg" (about the man who tried to kill Hitler) and Henry James's "Washington Square" and "The wings of the dove".
