View Full Version : How do I download a book?

I'm trying to download "Bleak House" from Gutenberg.com and don't know how. I've got a Blackberry cell phone with 8Gigs and want the book either sent OTA to my phone or zipped to my computer. I seem to get only so far and then somehow there's a glitch.... can someone help? The concept of 'downloading' things like this is something I'm not familiar with. Thanks

Given the size of the file, it might be better to download it to your computer. I would download the plain text version (zipped) and save it to your hard drive (probably in MyDocuments):

Click on "main site" and you should get a popup asking whether to open it or save it to disk. Opt for the latter.

Once the file is downloaded through your browser of choice (hopefully Firefox), you will need to unzip the file (click on the file and Windows---or a resident application---should automatically unzip, or "extract" it), and then open the extracted file by right clicking on the file and choose your word processor (open with...)rather than the notepad default (after which you can certainly resave the file as the WP's file type for ease of viewing, editing, highlighting, etc.).

I got it to my computer and before I read your post I opened it with Notepad.... Now I need to do to correct that, and whatever I need to do to get it to my Blackberry device. I thought that was what the Sync was all about but I can't figure out how to do that.
