promises

mornings alone
the entire world at my fingertips
waiting to be explored
paths to follow
and promises

a glittering city, towers of glass and steel
concrete and asphalt and noisy street corners
businessmen in black suits carrying black briefcases
hurrying to their next engagement
tall thin women in tall thin dresses
jangling bracelets and silver necklaces
with purses big enough to
shoplift a Volkswagen

all this soon to be replaced
by a powerful personal east wind
blowing me across the ocean

to deep blue inland lakes
calm green fields to the horizon
prairie crops welcoming the prairie summer
a rockstrewn northern shore

and a grey misty morning
with a new day's promise

I really like this Cdn, especially the following lines, but they are made even more beautiful by the preceding lines. Planning a trip home?

Firefangled and Pendragon, thanks so much for your kind comments.

Amanda, you're so sweet. I guess those four lines were the winners in this poem. Seemed to be everyone's favourites. ;) Yes, I'm delighted to be coming home. I've been two years away....so it's well past time. :D

Get the feeling that you do not like the BIG CITY! A sense of homesickness, of time out of mind.

Thanks for the welcoming words and I look forward to all that the forum offers

goldenrod.

Thanks very much, Shurtugal. I appreciate your comment. :)

Goldenrod, I think I love all the different spaces of our world -- each offers something unique and interesting and fascinating. But I've spent two years in the big BIG city of London, and I'm now so very ready to come back to see the wide open vistas of Canada again. Only two more days!! :D
