Saluton!

Since a)the mods are going to lynch me if I don't translate it (as I understand, it is OK to make foreign language topics as long as translation is provided, or am I mistaken?) b)my Esperanto is probably so flawed that even people who speak it can't understand it I will translate what I said.

Hello!
I don't speak a lot of Esperanto, but I thought whether there are people on the LitNet who do speak Esperanto - it is a language of nerds and here are a lot of nerds.
Do you speak Esperanto? Writing correctly doesn't matter - you can write incorrectly - like me.

Tal, whats Esperanto? Is it that language that they started teaching in schools in the 70s as the language that would bridge the international barrier,

I am not sure about whether it was taught in schools in seventies - well, it was taught perhaps somewhere, but probably not very widely - it isn't a very popular language - although it is the world's most spoken constructed language (created by a Polish doctor Zamenhof in the end of the 19th century). Different estimations give 100 000 to 2 million fluent speakers. I am not fluent, I'm afraid.
Anyhow, it was meant as a language that would unite all countries and be a sign of equality and so on in the beginning days of the language, but nowadays it is more a language of nerds - since it didn't quite catch on.

You can read more from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esperanto), of course.
