My heart is an unruly child
She will not be quiet when we wait
for him at the train station
Her wants are many, and far too greedy
She clings to me yet stretches an arm to him
But not all the way, yet.

I offer her treats and take her to the bars
But she screams and runs for him
I have told her many times it is impossible
But still she burns and aches

She has no sense or plans for things
Only runs and snatches
Or dreams of this: I cannot know
So many times I have asked my brain to lead
He cannot tame her; she's far too wild.

And every day she begs and begs
But I'm too shy to let her go
To the stranger who catches the 59 each morning
And returns on the 120

My heart is an unruly child

Pretty much says it all, doesn't it? though this is a fine poem all in all.

What makes this so readable and enjoyable is your focus on this child for whom you offer no excuses. She is who she is.

Well done!
