Sadderday

Even the sun shining, a dark Saturday,
Oh the guilt,
not thanking God that it was Friday, yesterday.
I should have been guzzling beer,
swallowing deep fried jalapeno cheese-filled poppers,
singing karaoke with my working buddies.
Yes, this is a sadder day than that, no tears really,
just quiet, the heat of the sun on my eyelids,
closed, waiting for the dew to dry,
to scratch at the earth, asking,
"Would you like some lavendar today,
or this, a fine Russian sage?"
And what of tomorrow,
My sun day, son day, fun day, speedway,
racing into Memorial Day, which of course, is a Sadderday,
even if it is a Monday, remembering.

What makes this piece special is its specificity, concrete
images. Nice work. Auntie

Wow, outstanding work. You know I've never come across the pun saturday/sadderday before. Brilliant. Amp your poetry seems to be getting better. This part , the core of the poem just got me:

Yes, this is a sadder day than that, no tears really,
just quiet, the heat of the sun on my eyelids,
closed, waiting for the dew to dry,
to scratch at the earth, asking,
"Would you like some lavendar today,
or this, a fine Russian sage?"

Thank you very much Auntie and Virgil. I've never been a TGIF kind of person but that's how I imagine it. ;)

You know I've never come across the pun saturday/sadderday before.

It's a thing I do when writing to my mom of all things...Two's day, When's Day...Sometimes I'll put Mundane for Monday. I thought maybe they were kind of silly but I like Sadderday too. Thanks.

Golly Kiz, that is really nice of you to say and Diby, you are always so encouraging. I thank you and wish you all a safe Memorial Day, even if it may not be a holiday you celebrate.

Wonderful punning in this, Ampoule, and I am especially fond of

the heat of the sun on my eyelids,
closed, waiting for the dew to dry,
to scratch at the earth, asking,
"Would you like some lavendar today,
or this, a fine Russian sage?"
