I've read the Dan Brown novels on the DaVinci code and religious aspects, my wonder is how much of it is known in the real world. I ponder as to how much of these books are non-fiction. The DaVinci Code discusses how King Arthur sent his knights in search of the Holy Grail. The knights discover the lost documents on the history of Jesus and Mary Magdalene. The documents include such writings as the Dead Sea Scrolls. They also discover that the Holy Grail is Mary Magdalene herself. The analogy of Mary to a Grail, is in that she was carrying Jesus's baby, the blood of Christ, which is what we take for communion in all christian religions.

The Knights Templar decide that it is too great to release on the world or the church. They agree to keep it secret, also in compliance with the church's request. Pope Constantine in later years, sends several letters out to other parties convicting the Knights Templar of harsh acts of blasphemy, and orders them all to be slaughtered. The date that all the letters were told to be opened, the Knights Templar were slaughtered. The Priory of Sion, in later years once again, was formed to protect the secret of the Holy Grail (Mary Magdalene).

My story is a little vague after it being so long that I read the book, but I am researching the topic regularly to know what is truth and what isn't. I suppose it is still an act of faith to decide...

The book is a novel. As such, it's a work of fiction. So, you shouldn't take the facts mentioned there as if they really happened.
