I am not the love that sends you flowers and chocolates
I am not the love that waits for you in the rain
I am not the love that takes you out for a meal
I am not the love that writes you love songs
I am not the love to cure your past loves' wrongs

I am not the love that calls you 'sweetheart'
I am not the love that entwines with you
I am not the love that dictates your life
I am not the love that understands your whims and fancies
I am not the love that occurs in your fantasies

I am not the love that flirts and teases
I am not the love who'll say 'I do'
I am not the love you'll flaunt at your friends
I am not the love that proclaims our affair
I am not the love who'll run fingers through your hair

I am not the love who cherishes your image
I am not the love who stalks you passionately
I am not the love who'll give you birthday surprises
I am not the love that buys you fine dresses
I am not the love that gives you sweet caresses

I am the love that dwells in your heart
I am the love that gives you consolation
I am the love that feeds your inspiration
I am the love that knocks you for seven
I am the love that shines from heaven
I am not a lover you can touch
But the infinite hope to which you can clutch

When your other loves have left you at the door
I'll grab your hand and pull you from the floor

I think if I were that girl, I would prefer the kind of love you are than the one you are not. Nice poem, I liked it.

hmm.. one of the tips LitNet members gave me was to aviod the inverted sentence thingy that we sometimes use to make it rhyme; i.e.

"I am not a lover you can touch
But the infinite hope to which you can clutch"

not quite sure if this holds true here too, i'm not in the state to be thinking lucidly...

keep them coming, kelby_lake!

Are you really a human being or else you can not be a lover without indulging in the activities in your poem as a human being. Love is everything, fleshy, flashy and sensuous and there is touching and hugging everything in love.

it's sort of a religious thing, like from a spirit. it's not actually from me- but from some sort of philosophical idea of a loving spirit. You see? I'm female so in a way it applies to me
