Fanny Burney's Cecilia

Hi everyone! For some time now I've been wanting to plunge into eighteenth-century novels. Years ago I read Laclos's Liaisons Dangereuses and loved it. So now I've stocked up, and started with Burney's Cecilia. I'm halfway through it, and I've found it gripping at times, plodding at times. I know this type of novel requires a longer attention span than we modern-day folks are accustomed to. Anyway, now I'm going through one of the "gripping" parts and I'm turning the pages fast! Any insights on this novel, or others similar to it?

Ohh Long 18th century novels my favourite kind!
Although Iv read that many theyve begun to blurr is cecilia the one with the heiress who has polio and small pox or is that another boo by Burney?
Samuel richardsons Pamela or virtue rewarded is quite intresting reading if you look at it in context of the effect it had on the development of the novel, although Pmaela hersel is an annoying charcter. Tom Jones the Foundling, I rember enjoying that one. Belinda by Edgeworth like cecilia it was mentioned by Austen in Northager mannor, and is gripping in places.:nod:

Hmmm... hope not, because she's so beautiful and kind that it would be a pity to see her face scarred :lol: I think the one with the disfigured heroine is Camilla, though.
