Pre-Vacation Worries

It’s the day before vacation and I’m beginning to wonder
If I’m up for the long car trip that we have to make—
Have I thought it all out, or is it a major blunder?
Am I making another perhaps costly mistake?
I’ve not been to the Atlantic now for several years,
And the sand and the spray are calling me again.
I must learn to conquer the worst of my foolish fears—
Tranquility lies there along that narrow strip of sand!
The cry of the gulls is a song well worth the endeavor,
The treasure of sea shells; the sting of the salt spray.
I’ve longed for them all for what seems like forever!
My health shall not cheat me out of my victory today!
God grants me grace on the morrow, and I’ll pack up and go.
It’s well over four hundred miles, but Hatteras, Ho!

Pen, I love this. The pace of it is perfect. It made me think of Woolf's To the Lighthouse. I hope it is true that you are going, but you'll have to be up with the Lark! :)

(Did you mean "sea shells" in the fifth line from the bottom?)

Great poem.

Great poem.Yes, I did! Thank you! ;) :) Yes, I leave bright and early tomorrow, Lord willing. Coming back next Saturday. Takes about 8 hours or so to get where we're going. Long trip but well worth it! ;) :) :D http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l108/AbsalomKane/Smilies/Surfsup.gif

Are you back from your vacation Pen? How are you feeling? Hope everything went well and that you're better.

Damn the Torpedoes, Full Speed Ahead! I think you deserve to lose your worries on the beach. Bring along pen and paper and poeticize your days there Pen. I like the poem for the description of angst prior to the adventure. Cheers, B

Oh well I hope you enjoy your vacation. I'm glad you're improving. At least it's going in the right direction. I pray you will fully recover.
