Yeah, congratulations Janine! You are a grandmother now. :)

Brooke weighed in at nine pounds! Ouch!

When I was born, I weighed ten pounds. Heh I know nobody after seeing me now can believe that but well that's truth unless all those relatives and parents are lying to me for which I see little reason. :p And some months before I was born, when friends of my mother saw her, they used to wonder if there were two babies inside.

Wow, this is so nice; I have been trying to email all of you, but I admit I only got around to a handful. You all are my good friends and I will get around to each of you very soon.

Having a baby is hardwork, even for the grandmother - she gets to worry! I am totally exhausted from worrying all night long (equating to little sleep), but so relieved today, to see my miracle grand-baby laying in my arms - only two hours old. I will tell you all about it and more tomorrow when I am fully awake. Thanks so much for all these wonderful well wishes, for my beautiful grand-daughter, Brooke.

More congratulations! I hope you get as much time as possible with the baby.

Thanks Quark, I spend a nice amount of time with her last night; I went late to the hospital - after 7PM and at 8PM visiting hours are technically over; but my son assured me they would not throw me out, I being the grandma. When I got there, they had some more visitors, 4 people; but soon I was holding the baby; then they all left and I got to hold her so much more, it being quiet and peaceful; I was there until about 10. All the nurses were so nice. I am totally in love with my sweet little grand-daughter. She is so soft and pink and adorable; who could not love her? She is so new and pure; the miracle of a tiny little being, just starting her wonderful life on earth.
It is so cool being a grandmother. I can love this precious baby to extreme and then give her back to her parents, when all the work begins...hahaha....I can totally indulge and spoil her; it will be great fun! I will keep you all posted with updates. In a few days she should be home, cozy in her new nursery.
So far this new experience is amazing!:)

I haven't been in here for days; sorry I wasn't ignoring anyone; I just thought - I have to get back over here and thank everyone. I have been a bit preoccuppied with my new statis as grandma.
That is so sweet of you two.
First, Kizzo I love that - that picture is adorable! Yes, the name Brooke is quite unique and now I like it very much, too; I admit that I wasn't sure at first. I like it especially, with her second name 'Elise'. Sounds so pretty together. She is a sweetheart and I can't wait to see her again soon; hopefully the weekend. It was hard to give her back to her parents, when I was holding her the other day for a good hour or so. I hated going home and away from her. She was sleeping peacefully all the time I held her. Something so soothing about babies, don't you think when cuddling them? I am one very HAPPY grandmother! I hope I am a good grandmother to her; I know it will be such an adventure watching her grow up.

motherhubbard, that is so sweet, too. I love that with the pink and lavender. She must have a little shirt now that says "I love Grandma!" - I will have to find one somewhere.
This kid has the most enormous wardrobe already - my daughter-in-law had two showers (one was really large) and she has to many friends, that some came to the hospital and showered them with more gifts - my son had to make two trips from the hospital on the day they went home - but they do live 5 mins from there luckily. I have also had neighbors and friends send gifts here. I am really touched by their thoughfulness.

I am going to post right after this one to thank everyone I missed so far. Be back in a few minutes.

Oh Antiquarian, how sweet of you to start this thread for me. Thank you so much; you are such a good friend.:) It was very thoughtful and has been such fun. So nice the way all you Litnetters share in one’s happiness and this was certainly a happy event for me. I am glad to hear from all of you in the past week with all your heartfelt congratulations. It is fun being a grandmother!

You did a good job describing my granddaughter, Antiquarian! She was not quite 9 lbs but close – 8lbs 14oz and her mother is only 4 ft 11 in. – can you imagine? My son is not tall for a guy either. Who would predict? She is a beautiful and healthy baby, but then again I am prejudice about the beautiful part; I think she is the prettiest baby girl in the whole wide world! Grandparents always do think that way. But seriously, she is getting prettier every day; with her dark hair that curves around her head; so cute. Thanks too, Antiquarian for you personal sentiments. Yes, good health is the most important thing and I pray she always is healthy and happy, as well.

Thanks Weisinheimer, well actually she lost a little weight, but she could spare it, don’t you think? She doesn’t look as big as near 9 pounds sounds. I like your little turtle avatar and I love the Hallmark guys; I always send their cards – forget their names now – oh yeah, Hoops and Yo-Yo, right?

My good friend, Pensive, Thanks so much. You were a really big baby. How about that… because now you tell me you are not a big girl, at all, and even quite thin. I had heard from other people that can often be the case. I bet people asked your poor mom if she was having twins. She must have been glad when you finally came into the world. 10 lbs would be a lot of extra weight to carry around.

Hi Nossa, thanks so much. I truly hope to be a wonderful grandmother to my little Brooke Elise. We will have such fun when she get older playing all kinds of creative things: finger painting, coloring books, games, dolls, teaparties…all those fun girly things. I am thrilled the baby is a girl, since I had my boy already and enjoyed that 'boy' experience. My son is such a good daddy and I think he will spoil his little girl completely. I am very proud of how supportive he is with his wife and baby; he is very involved in all the baby care.

Logos, thanks so much. I haven’t seen you around lately, but then again, you are the 'mystery woman' behind the scenes, so you probably are there more than I realize. Glad you can share in my joy. It is great being a grandmother so far! My thoughts of little Brooke is not far from my mind anytime of the day; I wake up thinking only of her sweet face.

My good friend, manolia, you must think I deserted you or fell off the ends of the earth. I am so sorry, I have still not gotten to your last email. I will soon, promise. Things have been so hectic and I have been preoccupied, obviously. I was worried before the baby was born and now relieved to know all is well, and mother and father and baby are all doing so fine. Thanks for visiting this thread and your sweet congratulations. You kidding – ‘excited’ is an understatement…I guess 'ecstatic' is more like it!

TexJR, thanks so much. I don’t know you that well, but so nice to see people found the thread to share in this happiness of mine.

Another of my good friends, Grace86, I think I owe you an email response, too. I have fallen so far behind lately; sooo sorry. At least we do talk on IM. I am so glad all went well and mother and baby came through the birth safely. They are all doing so great now and I am so happy, Grace. It is marvelous being a grandmother; I can't begin to tell you what joy and happiness I feel all the time now. I love her so much already. Thanks,Grace for your best wishes. Hope to send you some photos soon.

pussnboots, thanks so much for being so sweet and complimentary. I hope we do have a very special relationship – my granddaughter and me – I love the sound of that. I know my son had, still has a special relationship with his grandmother, my mother. He is the 'joy' of her life and I am sure that Brooke will be the 'joy' of my life, also. She is so sweet; adorable. Thank you for sharing my happiness with me.

papayahed, thanks also for sharing in this thread and my happiness. I like your avatar – the turtle in the rocking chair – cute; especially his hat! I will have to buy Brooke a little cowgirl outfit someday. I had one when I was a kid; thought I was Annie Oakley, remember her? Thanks for your congrats!

Scherherazade, that is really cute – the ultimate smiley poster. I like those bright colors. That smile is permanently plastered on my face since I found out Brooke had been born. Thanks for the poster!

andave ya Yes, isn’t it great ??? I am thrilled!!! Thanks for those ‘many’ congratulations you sent my way. I don’t know you that well from the forums, but by your count of 1,761 posts, you would think I would know you by now….our paths mustn’t cross too often, huh? Thanks so much for your good wishes and blessing. I will try my best to be a good grandmother to my precious granddaughter – she will be well loved.

Virgil, my good and thoughtful friend; how pretty that box of baby goodies is and how sweet! I love the pink – for girls! Thanks so much! I love that gift, especially the ‘New Grandma’ button; your wonderful comments, best wishes are highly appreciated. ‘Luck’ is a good thing to have; Brooke's parents especially need that now, with trying to get the little Brooke to sleep well at night and get some sleep themselves; the first week and even second weeks are always the roughest. They are learning all about baby care now, firsthand; no more diapering dolls in baby prep class! Also, those sleep and never cry for food, etc. They will be great parents; so far, so good!

Dramanot6, thanks so much, too. It is the most wonderful news in the world when you hear you are finally a grandmother. I waited a long time for this blessed event. I am so happy!!!

sprinks, Yay is right! Babies and grandmothers are the best, aren’t they? I just wish I lived a little closer to their house and could be with her more often. They don’t seem to need too much help and her mother is nearby and can run over when they do. I would do so also, but I can’t just get there spur of the moment or in a few minutes. I still hope to be of great help in the future when they will need a baby-sitter, etc. I will want to see my granddaughter as much as I can of course. How wonderful for you, having a baby sister! My baby sister was 5 yrs younger than me. You must enjoy her so much.

I like your neat socks, Sprinks, and I see we have a foot theme going on there. I used to have a whole drawer full of funky socks –what fun they were; I even had piano keys and scottie dogs. I still have some crazy ones, but don’t wear them anymore. I should with flats – that would bring me some attention, I am sure; especially at my age. My baby sister shocked everyone at her wedding, she wore argyle socks, under her white wedding gown, just to be a 'devil'. She is 'devilish' to this day! Enjoy your little sister; they grow up too quickly. Enjoy every moment you have with her. Babies are so cute.

vheissu, another person I don’t know too well (guess we are like ships passing in the night) and yet you found this thread to congratulate me. Thanks so much for that. I love that avatar of yours - the black cat ‘noir’ poster!

Hi Nightshade,I haven’t run into you for awhile, either. Thanks so much for visiting this thread and your congrats means a lot to me.

Well, as they say - "everyone loves a baby!"

Janine, if you have not already got one, an investment in a good comfortable rocking chair would be a real blessing. I think that babies love to be rocked and how nice it would be to cuddle one while quietly rocking. I just love the smell of a baby, btw!

And have no doubt that you will be/are the best grandmother in the whole world. I was just thinking how richly blessed you were on Mother's Day just passed -- a brand new baby, wow!

Yes, Kizz, I certainly am richly blessed. I do know that. Actually Mother's Day was the due date but Brooke took her time - she wanted to be 'fashionably late'.

I love my little granddaughter so much; she is so cute and you are right, babies smell so wonderful! I love the way they cuddle down in your arms; it is relaxing holding her. I told them they needed a rocker but they did not think it. I know my own son loved being rocked. I don't have one here but may try and get one soon. I had the one I used for my son but it needs completely refinishing and recaning so I think it is not worth it now.

I haven't seen the sweet baby since Tues, so I am dying to see her again; it is kind of killing me actually, but I know they need their time alone for now, to get adjusted to babycare. They are 'first-time nervous' parents, trying to deal with Missy Brooke not sleeping at night; I think it is all totally normal, but they are working hard to get her to stay awake in the day and sleep at night. Tiny newborns don't seem to know the difference. I kidded with my son and said "Oh, then Brooke takes after her grandmother," because he knows, I am an night-owl! Of course, I don't think he was laughing at my comment at that point; he desperately needed some sleep himself.

Yesterday they took the baby for a nice walk around the block. I guess they were hoping fresh air would help her to have a peaceful night's sleep. Haven't heard an update yet today; they are probably napping now.

Kizz, thanks so much for saying, that I will be a good grandmother; I don't know about the best in the world - the world it is a pretty big place. I certainly will work hard at it, every chance I have. It will be such an adventure, watching her grow up and sharing so many fun times with her through the years. I loved my grandmother, so I had a good model.

Hahah, amanda_isabel, not really my job! Her blessed new parents are learning quickly that babies are a lot of work; also, they just won't let one sleep; but the both adore her. My son keeps asking 'was I like this? Well, I keep repeating to him a fond memory, when I stayed once with my mother overnight; he was maybe a few months old; and we had to keep getting up out of bed to crank up this swing; next to the bed which he was sleeping in; it was the bed type swing. He loved that swing. Only thing was, he was sound asleep...that is....until the crank wore down and then he started screaming again. I don't think we got much sleep that night.
Yes, being a grandma is certainly all pleasure - when the kid gets like that, you just call the parents to come to take them home.

Seriously though, I can't wait to babysit my sweet little granddaughter. I know I will love it entirely and I am going to spoil this child entirely! I think it will be my revenge, to get back at my mother, who spoiled Brooke's father, my son!

Thanks, everyone seems to love her name. I am so glad of that. It is a good start in life having an interesting and pretty name, don't you think? I will give her a kiss from you, amanda. Your name is very pretty, too.:)

well, it is a job, i gess, part time, and one you can choose to go back to at your leisure :)

my mother had a harder time with me than most mothers with their first kids.. feeding me therough a feeding tube an ounce (eventually upgraded to two) of milk every hour.. my poor mother, and me her first baby... she even told me that my grandmother loved so much to let me sleep beside her, which my mom did find an inconvenince given that every hour feeding thing... oh well. i love my mother to bits, and my grandmother for spoiling me... i'm sure Brooke will feel the same :D

Sorry, I had not checked back in here for a few days.
amanda_isabel, you are welcome on the name compliment. You could use either and they would both be pretty, if these are indeed your real names.

Haha, they have not yet employeed me to babysit, but I am sure the day will come....and, I will love every minute of it.
Yes, it is a lot harder with the first baby I think, but in your case it must have been very difficult. Were you low birth weight or a born prematurely? That is great that you are so close to your grandmother; most children are and just for that fact - they tend to spoil the kid. I know my mother did with my son. Glad you love your mom to bits, too. She did do much of the work.

I hope Brooke feels a closeness to me and we really hit it off, as she grows up. I know we will have loads of fun and most kids love that. I am an artist, so I can think of tons of things we can do when she gets old enough for those activities.

No problem, don't be sad, *Classic*Charm*; no one is ever late on these threads. The celebration of this new little miraculous life, goes on everyday (I wake up thinking only of her) and I am so blessed. You are right - she is a special gift, a gift from Heaven.

Tonight, I go to see her and I just can't wait. It will be just my mother and I driving there this evening. I hope we can stay a good amount of time and visit with her and very proud and happy father and mother. Be assured that baby Brooke is going to be very, very spoiled, not just by her many grandparents (she has 4 great-grandparent's, too!) but also, by her father (my son Sean) - she is definitely going to be 'daddy's little girl'. He has amazed me, how wonderful he is with her; he just took to babycare and he loves it. His wife is so lucky to have such a helpful husband and she does know it. She tells me all the time; and she is such a good mother also; very sweet. Brooke is lucky to have such great parents.

Given all the grandparents this child has, she will be super spoiled and have many good role models, as well. But thanks for saying I would be a good one. I hope to be and I will do my very best, because I love her so.
