I need some help on ideas and points to make for an english paper. The essay is:
Explain the importance of being open to new ideas...

A very broad and horrible topic. If anyone could offer me some good points or any help I would be grateful.

Try to do your own work and not waste our time whining about it.

brentl, one of the most influential reads I have come across comes to those by Ralph Waldo Emerson. In "Self-Reliance," he writes of labeling no one else's ideas superior to your own (in the end it's all thinking, right?), but remaining open-minded, and, not entirely accepting others' ideas, but considering them seems wise. Good luck!

Maybe you can start with making a list. What would happen if you are not open to new ideas? Try to remember the times you have tried something for the very first time. Like sushi for example. Or a sport.

I'd go the other way and assert that it's NOT important. You might discuss the current President of the United States as an example.

what's so new about that? I mean such issue was on some time ago..

ok the importance of new ideas...well if we didn't consider new ideas as important, we wouldn't have pc, we wouldn't have fast food, we wouldn't have MTV, etc etc..

there's no progress in human civilazation if we didn't open to new ideas..

Well I did help. I posted two posts regarding the importance of new ideas..
here's another:

being open to new ideas will indeed improve you as a person. If you're not open, You will always think that you're the greatest person on earth, you'll think that you're already compelete, and this will make you find other people annoying when they're trying to tell you about new stuffs

You call fast food the progress in human civilisation?

Or was that just irony?

Close down this thread admin... no one seems that they can follow the advice of ignoring posts that annoy them. What a bunch of idiots.

Riddick, I see what you mean, but going on the forums complaining about situations and members does little or nothing to resolve it. Most of the times, it just adds to the same thing you're complaining about. Try to be civil and follow your own advise: ignore this thread and/or the people you don't get along with. Admitedly, sometimes that just isn't possible, but I don't think this is the case. Just my $ 0,02. :)

It is saving some people's time, isnt it? You don't call that a progress?
Personally, I have stopped eating fast food long long time ago.

baddad, you're sorely mistaken if you think I would resort to such offensive and juvenile tactics to cause dissention and ill-will in these very forums that I personally enjoy so much.

I'm closing this thread now.

subterranean, Scheherazade and a few others did have some decent input here, please start a new discussion if you so wish.
