Time Out
We gaze at the heavens, we track the stars,
We wait for Orion to stretch his mighty slingshot,
To catapult a deathly asteroid, smash us to smithereens,
When all the time she is right there beneath us,
Waiting, trembling, seething perhaps.
Oh Mother, why are you so angry with us,
What have we done to deserve your wrath?
And now, why are you weeping?

I love this, Ampoule, and of course am intrigued by the unanswered, and possibly never to be answered question at the end.

Thank you both. Not that anyone has asked, but I will say it was the earthquake in China that brought this to mind.

Like an ostrich egg in his large hand,
He took the earth and cracked it
on the edge of the universe,
Spilling its contents into the fissures,
the crevices, the dust, the rubble,
The yellow scramble screaming on the
hot plate broken, my child, my only child,
Why this day of all did you have to play
Chicken Little, to be so.....obedient?

This is a wonderful poem, Amp. I like that you give us a mother with all her emotions exposed, first angry then weeping over having been so angry.
And the answer to the question of a mother weeping might be, "I'm sorry, it's just that I am sooo proud of you. I just want you to do your best."

"Oh Mother, why are you so angry with us,
What have we done to deserve your wrath?"
Oh, I don't know. Maybe messing with the atmosphere and the Ozone Layer, accelerating global warming, cutting her to ribbons with strip mining, surplanting her rain forests, polluting her oceans and streams. . .the list goes on and on.
But seriously, both of your verses are very nice, Ampoule.

A mystical poem, and seeking meaning here is not possible.
