An interesting title. It's not a command for Sally to lie down (since it's not Lie Down Sally) but for someone else (since it's not Lay Yourself Down Sally) to lay Sally down. The unanswered question of course is: "Where do you you want me to lay down Sally?"

Are you sure about this?
It's interesting to note the grammar for sure, and a lot of us get those two mixed up at times, but the next few lines are,
"Lay down Sally,
rest here in my arms,
I've been waiting, all night long just to talk to you."
That would seem to indicate the opposite, grammar notwithstanding.
I just have to laugh at that word - notwithstanding. :)

Is This Love? ~ Bob Marley
I did indeed. . Over the last couple years I have gotten very much into Scottish and Irish music. . I found my way to some greats. . Planxty, Bothy Band, Archie Fisher. . that's why I always look for the best, because eventually you find it :)
I'd be curious to know what you think of Mountain Rain by Archie Fisher, if you feel like it.
"Song for a Friend" is another one by him that both of these give me goosebumps too
Btw I never knew Enya was Celtic music either until I learned a lot of the others :)

sorry for the delayed reply.
i do.. when I first heard him, it was Angi, and I wasn't entirely impressed because it wasn't as impressive of guitar work as some of the other versions. . but then I went on to find "from the morning," and downloaded and listened to it dozens of times. . i haven't listened to all of his work though; mostly that one song.
I haven't heard of it, but I am sure I will like it. (liveireland, that is)
one of the first performances I heard when I was getting into this type of music was De Dannan, just about an hour long live performance, in a home setting. . .
really I have heard a lot of people mention those bands and maybe one day I will get to them. . but for now the Bothy Band and Planxty could fill a lifetime. . Kevin Burke from Bothy Band is. . I just have no words to describe how beautiful this music is or how much it has enriched my life. I'm.. selective about what I listen to.. I've actually found that principle of selectivity runs through everything. . .even if I limit myself to the top .01% of music, literature, poetry, the rest - I still have a lifetime to go through; and that kind of beauty in art and the rest can really have such a wonderful effect.
I heard a bit of Loreena McKennit and will look up more. . I tend not to like videos that have music videos - I used to love them; but they are a bit of a waste of bandwidth in my current view. . so I guess that partly draws me towards music where a lot of it is studio or doesn't have a video.
Nope, I don't listen to Pandora.. I have, plenty. . one thing is they compress the songs a great deal... there is some richness that is lost when they do that. although - it's quite nice that it doesn't have any commercials!

if you do give liveireland a try, let me know how you like it.
ive not heard of de danna--yet another artist to discover!
ive got some bothy bad, and have listened occasionally. maybe i'll go back and give them some more careful listening.
for mckennit---I recommend she moved through the fair, dante's prayer, and the dark night of the soul, as a start---if you end up liking those, I can recommend bunches more like them
when I can listen to Pandora, ive got a "song of Ireland" (do you know that song by the way?) and a "the water is wide" station. I can deal with some richness lost in order to have the tunes in the first place. and I love the exposure to similar artists.

What I like most about Planxty and Bothy Band is just the joy, of their music. . I have dozens of favourites, but julia Delaney, the Butterfly, Fionnghula, are a few. . . and by Planxty, the Blind Harper was maybe the first song I heard, and soon after Banaesa's Green Glade. .. these are beyond beautiful in my view. .
Have you heard of Jansch or Renbourn? They were part of Pentangle but were also very prolific on their own. . I've explored both of their music to a great extent, and will of course continue now and then.. Like, Jansch had at least 15 solo albums, not counting all his work with fellow musicians - renbourn. . I just went to check because I wasn't sure- yep, even more prolific with 20 solo albums!
Needless to say, I have a lot of favourites, but I really love pretty much all I've haerd of his.
I did listen to a bit of McKennit and liked what she had to say in the beginning of it, about nature and things. .
I have heard song of Ireland I believe but it was a long time ago, I will look it up.
And liveireland and the water is wide - I will remember those for the next time I listen to pandora.

I have not heard of jansch or renbourn...so more discovery there too!

song for Ireland is right up there in my top all time favorites (I trust you know wild mountain thyme?) and I think the best version, hands down, is by the corrs.
the water is wide is covered by dozens of artists, with great variety in lyrics and arrangement. and if you like the tune, you will probably like carrickfergus. the former is an American version of the latter.

I do like that song a lot - Wild mountain thyme - my favourite is by Joan baez maybe; at least that is the one I have heard most.
