1. The French word ' renaissance' literally means 'rebirth'. How fitting is this term as a label for the particular period in European history referred to as the 'renaissance'? Discuss with adequate examples from literary and/or cultural texts of this period.
2. Discuss the different features and concerns of the literary and artistic movement called Romanticism with reference to works from the period that you are familiar with.

4. "The 19th century Transcendentalist movement in the US represented a complex response to the democratization of American life, in short of the redefinition of the relation of man to nature and to other men that was being demanded by the course of history." Examine the statement with relevant examples.

I think the 3rd question most likely has something to do with finding a way to assimilate into whatever society it is he or she is living inside.. like African-American writers have to be more "American" than "black", but the self is there in the evident pride of the writer.

6. "Canadian literature, like Canada itself, is an ongoing search for an identity." Do you agree? discuss with reference to examples from Canadian Literature.

Orientalism was a bad joke dreamed up by Said.
What are the Italian and French equivalents to the Aesthetic movement, and what world events brought about these movements?

yes it is i suppose. more likely, for example, i m an indian of the 18th century and if i have to leave my own country and live in some other country then i'll face quite a lot of problems. I'll have to survive in an alien culture. no friends to support me. i'll be an outsider there. but what about my children or grandchildren. they'll not be outsiders anymore but still they will always be different. i think searching for their roots.
