Hello there one and all!
I know how knowledgeable you all must be and I apologize in advance for sounding so ignorant!

I have a question which is horribly vague but I'd be so grateful for any help anyone could give me any help or if anyone could point me to where I could find some answers:

I remember being a bit younger and seeing a documentary on two people (I believe both the man and woman were writers but forgive me if I'm wrong) and the focus of this program was on their relationship as two people married to different people but who ended up living together (being in love) and having children together even though they never divorced their spouses. I can't remember who they are, what they wrote or which period they were from but I'd love to know!

I know how vague that sounds but anything that comes to anyone's minds about who they were would be so much appreciated, I want to write a paper on a similar topic.

Thank you very much guys and I hope someone can help me haha

The only writers couple that comes to my mind is Nicci French, but they're married to each other. Can you remember if they're modern/classic writers?

yes its entirely possible that they were poets! or that even he was and she wasn't, though her spouse was also a writer of sorts

i thin they were earlier rather than later xxxxx

Several writer couples come to my mind, although none has the exact features of the one you described.

Poet Percy Shelley, then married to Harriet Westbrook, left her for future novelist Mary Shelley, whom he married after Harriet committed suicide in 1816.

Vita Sackville-West married diplomat, journalist and author Harold Nicolson and they lived in what would now be called an "open marriage"; her lover Virginia Woolf and Virginia's husband Leonard were also writers.

George Eliot lived for many years with George Lewes, who was married to another woman, also in an "open marriage" (Lewes's wife had had children with several other men besides her husband).

Other writer couples: Mary Wollstonecraft and William Godwin, Elizabeth Barrett and Robert Browning, Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir, Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes, Paul Auster and Siri Hustvedt, Antonia Fraser and Harold Pinter...

Hope this helps!
