Ok by this time if youve been around a significant amount of time you will realise that the thin I have been harping about since I joined the litnet is finally upon us- or rather me and Im going oing going to prague- 4 years of planning so worth it even if I could have maybe planned better because where has all my money gone
anywa 3 months away self catering and working fulltime while Im out ther , what do I take , Ive only got 20kg baggage allowance- and Im not going without my laptop although IM ot sure if handluggage counts in the wieght restriction.
Im buying pans and cutlery out there but taking my own towels. So I guess what my real question is I have very limited books space what do I take? and can I get my hands on english books out there? Or will it be like trying toget a foriegn languge here where all the books that are offered are rubbish?
How on earth do I make a handfull of books strech for a whole 3 months?
So suggestions of books needed please! As well as any other advice

Sounds great, I hope you have a good time :) There is no weight restriction with hand luggage that I am aware of (only size restriction) ; just a few days ago I had two carry-on bags, big purse and one from duty free and it was, uhmmm, loaded with bottles :D There is a great English language bookshop in Praha, if/when I hunt down the name I'll let you know. Advice? where's Jay when you need her! heh heh... I would suggest collections/anthologies/critical editions of works/poetry etc.

If I'm not very much mistaken, there are also English books in the public library so that you wouldn't even have to buy all of them. (You'd have to dispose of the books you bought when you leave. I couldn't do that. :) )

Do you have an address yet? You could send yourself books.
I'd ditch the towels, you can buy a couple there and ditch those on the way back if you happen to buy books.

don't worry Nighty. I visited Prague 2 years ago and I was surprised at the mass of English books they've got over there! there's this one multi-story book shop on Wenceslas Square that's got a whole basement full of foreign language books (mostly English). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wenceslas_Square
I saw loads of English books (and English translations of Czech books - Penguin ones!!!) in smaller bookshops throughout the city.
A Czech student once explained to me that Czechs are really keen on English (and German) books because they were not allowed to read them during the Cold War. So now they have a lot of catching up to do and can't get enough of them.
edit to add: and they are cheap, too! at least cheaper than in Germany and definitely not more expensive than in England
if you want some really good food at very reasonable prices go to St Norbert's Monastery Brewery restaurant http://www.klasterni-pivovar.cz/de/
I'll strangle you if you don't go there, because I'm drooling and dying of envy right now!

I forgot about that! I've been there too, bought myself a book, liked it a lot. :)

As far as I am aware, the hand luggage cannot be more than 10kg (along with the size restrictions). You can still pack all your books and other heavy stuff in your hand luggage. Ladies can take a handbag and a hand luggage so you can cheat there a little too.
Agree with Papaya that you don't need to carry your towels...
