I begin first: I am living for my parents today.

Living for the sake of living and nothing else.

Everyone lives for living, for nothing is sweeter than the taste of life.

Everything in life is enjoyable in life and things are enjoyable just because life is a thing of beauty.

This is really an interesting question and in fact this calls for great

thoughts and reflections.

In fact no one knows what he really and exactly lives for. We may live for a number of things. Some people live for consumption. Maybe to build a house and marry, birth kids and have a life with lots of excitement.

I often think if not always, I live for writing a good book and that book will sell immensely.

Or some people live for an ambition or materialization of the ambition they live with.

Still others live for self realization or to see God or to do lots of work, charitable works out of out of benovelence.

Or to put this a little differently, we many a time live unaware of what we live for and whom we live for.

As regards what we live for I have said that there could be a thousand and one reason what we live for.

Maybe we are wrong in saying what we really live for and more often we idealize or rationalize particular ways but we are not really living for that.

The answer I have is we do not know exactly what we live for.

But as regards to your another question, whom we live for every one has an answer depending upon his or her perception of life.
Some persons, and in fact many may say they live for a particular one or ones they love in life.

Maybe for family members, like for parents, spouses, or sons and daughters and the like.

When we say 'whom' we live for we have definite answers, but when we say
what we live for we have vaguer answers, totally indistinct and uncelar.

I can not say whether any can have a proper answer. For through generations or millenniums we find no answers to this question.

I like this question very much for a simple reason that this seeks answers for the entire philosophical question.

In fact all philosophers right from Gregorian time to now seeks answers to this question, but end up finding no answer.

Of course you have answers, but never a right one.

I have written three times here in response to this question and yet I am not sartisfied with I wrote. Yet I cannot resist the temptation of sharing with you.

Maybe sharing something with someone or people at particular time and place is what I live for.

Living to wait my death! No! Living to have a good life with my wife and in peace! feeling all relax! and doing what I love to do, music and my wife! ;)

Now my thought:

The original purpose to know why are we alive is a mystery and will keep being a mystery for us. But the only choice we have is to create our own purpose in life. Our own goals, our beliefs, the people we love and care, etc. All this give us a sense to keep living.

However, humans have that desire to live in them. Even feeling that they don't have a "purpose" or feeling an urge to kill oneself because a deep suffering in them. Look at those that try to kill themself, they take their time to do it. And they are going against a "will" to live that they have in them, due a deep suffering that they can't tolerate anymore. This makes them to go against that will for finish a suffering. But this shows that that is not what they really want. If there was not suffering they will keep living.

I think I ended going away from the original question to "Why humans have a desire to live?"

I want to add that this is just how I view it. And I am not putting it as a fact. Since not everybody will think it the same way.

No Mazhur, humans are not just for procreation. Human beings procreate but in procreating he is not confined and must not be defined in terms of procreation. He is really more than all we define and of course surmise.

Life is mysterious, and what we know life is very little, and our knowledge of it is likened to a drop of water before a vast water-body. Life is something that engages us and make us do this and think and it is all life's own course. Life whittles its course for itself. All courses culminate in life like all rivers culminating in the sea as a matter of fact.

Science tries to confine life within a body, and philosophy trying to define it in terms and words fail, for life is too big to be confined or framed in the frame of words and sentences.

Life is too big a thing, and life is a big river and the route of it is not something un-bendable, and of of course life is not just the sum of all that we know and of course the summation of all we do not know.

All have different definitions of or perspectives on life. Life is something we never can decipher the full secret or mystery of it.

This is really a very serious question. I do not know yet what I am really living for. Maybe I am living for writing on this forum or to associate with you all. I may be living for raising a family of my own so that I can commission a wall between myself and the rest of the world.

I may be living for loving and hating, maybe for searching my origin or to seek for an answer to the where we came from question. We really cannot say exactly why we are living for. Maybe priorities change every so often; the values I live by today is not unalterable. The beliefs we have garnered are not irreversible.

I also live for what I like to do... reading, being outside, watching the seasons, eating, stuff like that.

I guess I also live for the future, because I want to see the seasons in more places than just here. I want to see redwood forests, I need to spend more time at the ocean and I want to see what a desert is like after a rainstorm (I've heard that it's beautiful). Stuff like that.

Ponderings
This is in point of fact a million dollars question and that gets me into thinking all the time and that is why I am with all of you on this forum, to know me who I am and where I came from and whether I am connected with all of you circuitously or I am a totally different entity and live unitarily.

Does anybody for sure know why he is here and what got him here? At times I believe I am here to have fun. I am here because my parents have a primal desire for copulation and they could not help or restrain themselves. I am the youngest among the 7 children my parents have. I could have been unwanted or a redundancy, for my birth or entrance into an already crowded family was not celebrated jubilantly. This approves the fact that I have been here involuntarily. I can put it another way. My parents did not know a contraceptive then or even if they had known it they abstained from it out of their religiosity thinking that this is sacrilege to stop letting come a life that wants to see the world.

It matters little whether I came by mistake or by accident or by way of something that had to do with the impulses my parents had in their prime of life. It matters much that I am with you on the loose to respond to what you say and to move you, to anger you, to accompany you, to appease you, to exchange words with you and the like.

My arrival is not anything phenomenal. I am stardust. I am a fugitive; I was not here; I am here; I will not be here. This is a dream, a flash and appears and disappears in a spilt of a second.

I'm living for my son, my dog, myself. Almost two and a half years surviving cancer and counting. I would have counted many more things at one time, but now, my pack is light and my focus narrow. I am grateful.

I think I mainly live for myself. my son and my dogs are a part of that world but I enjoy me more than anyone else.

On a slightly superficial note, I live for books, tv, coffee (there is no life without coffee) and good food. Could live a very happy life with just these things.

Congratulations. Thirty years for me. Every day has been a victory.

You're awesome, BM. We are awesome. Everyone who has survived something like this is totally and completely awesome.

Agreed. I'm like Dracula about it. "The coffee is the life, Mr. Harker."

At the moment, I'm living for this cup of coffee, which I made. Heavy cream and a touch of sweetener, mmm...
