1. The Drunk
Gabriel stood there watching women spin around in sleek long dresses while men in a formal suits held onto their hands. He finished his drink before moving over to a long table full of food. Over time, Gabriel slowly started to munch on small pieces of food until he grew bored. He glanced at the dance floor again watching a very upset lady stomp away from her dance partner. With a small smile, Gabriel started to approach her. She turned around and they met eyes for a minute before he pushed past her going up to a small bar.
Without saying anything to the person there, Gabriel pointed at something ordering a drink. He glanced back at the woman to see her gazing at him. But Gabriel gave her a dirty look and she looked at the ground. Quickly, he grabbed his drink guzzling it before ordering another one. The woman made her way over to Gabriel but he neglected her by grabbing another glass, drinking almost nonstop.
“Hello,” she greeted in a soft voice. “I’m Marie Antoine.”
Gabriel just gave her another dirty look and Marie looked at the ground again. Once again, he guzzled another drink and then another. No words left his mouth as he stood there.
“Are you with anybody? I saw you standing alone over there,” smiled Marie trying to start a conversation with him. “It’s never fun being alone, I had to come here with my brother and he is quite the bore. You know how siblings are. They always have to be extremely annoying and a huge embarrassment…” Still Gabriel said nothing. Marie’s cheeks turned bright red as she looked at the ground. “Do you want to dance or something like that?”
Gabriel slammed a glass down on the bar before staggering out of the room. Marie watched him but said nothing as he slightly swayed. He did not stop as he made his way outside. The whole time, he just moved across the room and up a staircase until finally, he made it outside. Out there Gabriel stumbled over to a valet asking for the man to bring his car around front. Within minutes, he was free to leave. Gabriel slammed his foot on the gas pedal, screeching forward into the darkness. Without paying any attention, he rushed out of the driveway right into another car. The sound of two crashing cars smashing into each other echoed through the night air.

He remained standing there looking around at all of the other people before looking at her again. Slowly, he studied her slim crimson dress that gently embraced her body.
“I like your dress,” commented Gabriel.
“Thank you,” said the woman.
Then Gabriel walked away back toward the food table leaving the woman standing there. She watched him leave and sit down beside the table looking out at the dance floor. While sitting there, he never met her eyes no matter how long she gazed at him. Frowning, she looked back at the dance floor trying to ignore Gabriel. Although, gradually, her eyes brought her back to Gabriel again and again while he sat there. The woman pulled forward making her way to him. She stood in front of him with bright red cheeks. “Do you need help with something, miss?”
She put out her hand, “I’m Marie Antoine.”
“Gabriel Appleton,” he replied gently taking her hand wrapping his fingers around her hand. “Who are you here with?”
“My obnoxious older brother, Caleb, who thinks he is a god.”
“Well don’t we all?” smiled Gabriel leaning back in his seat. “In some way or another.”
“Do you think that you are a god?”
“Nope, I’m an angel, my name is Gabriel. Now do you need help with anything?”
“I need help finding somebody who can dance. Do you happen to know any dancers?”
“There is this guy over there named Caleb who thinks that he is some sort of dance god.”
“But he’s not because he trips all over his partner’s feet. The fool.”
“True, true you can never trust those gods.” Gabriel paused meeting her eyes. “I’m guessing that you are more interested in somebody who is more along the lines of being a mortal or maybe even an angel.”
“An angel, I’m a sucker for the heavens. Why dance with some trashy mortal when you can dance with some incredible celestial being. By far, there is no competition.”
“Since you are looking for an angel to dance with…” Gabriel trailed away before standing up and gently taking her by the hand. “Then in that case, you are stuck with me.” Marie giggled as she embraced his hand. They floated out onto the dance floor.
