Opening to a story

so...
lets write some openings

Are we to write an original opening? Joyce thought it was proper to start all stories with once upon a time.

It depends on what you intend to write what you open with. For instance, If I want to write a detective or whodunnit, I should not start with the killer, unless there is a double plot twist that disguises what is really going on in the heads of the mad men.
