This was written for my mother who is in the middle of cancer treatment. Hope you all enjoy this.

Lives taken everyday
Families hurt.
Some get it late in life.
Some at birth.
Everyone thinks “never in my family”
Some are right, some mistaken.
All of a sudden
A life is taken.
Some get it in the leg
Others in the head.
Those with the leg should feel fortunate
That they might not die on the surgery bed.
It’s been four years now
Unexpected.
They called for surgery to be next month
Two surgeries to the head.
Will she come back?
We’ll never know.
But we’ll keep hoping and praying
So she’ll show.

I'm unsure how to critique this since your intentions seem quite sincere, however, I cannot resist quoting the master, Oscar Wilde, and saying, "All bad poetry is sincere."

As a poem it seems dull. As a token to your mother, it seems quite polite, and passionate, however, I am not your mother, and therefore must critique it as a poem, and go with Wilde.
