I received a book through paperbackswap. The sender told me the book was on it's last leg, I said I'd still take it. As I was reading the book was falling apart in my hands. I taped the heck out of it and kept reading. Now that I'm done with the book, what do I do with it? I'm not a book collector. My inclination is to throw it out but the thought of throwing a book away makes me twitchy.

See if you can donate it to a library that can rebind the book?

I agree with Il Penseroso.

I believe it's a terrible sin to toss out a book. It's just something we never did at our home. There's always a library, or needy families, or second-hand bookshops.

I seriously don't think a library or secondhand shop will take this thing.

I hate having to throw away books but there comes a time when you just have to let go. Recycle it though and in its place another lovely book will grow

Libraries usally refuse to ( in my experiance) rebind books unless they are rare first edtions etc.
howevre what we did in the charity shop was the book man collected falling to pieces books batched them up or mulched them up and recycled them what ever he took the books and earned money from them.

Bury it with a cross over the grave and an inscription. "Friend, I loved you well"

It's probably time to put it to rest. But if you really want to donate it, I've found nursing homes will take books in almost any condition.
