Bonjour folks :)
I thought it might be fun to create a thread all about fashion disasters. Do you remember any obscure fashion items you have worn over the years? If you have any pictures, feel free to post ;)
Cheers.

I've never worn anything embarrassing in my life.

But I'd like to point out that there's a major fashion faux pas being committed daily around the world right now and I just know a lot of men are going to look back on it red-faced: trousers pulled down below the 'hips'. Just stop this now.

And on a related note, skinny jeans (watch out, this one's a corker) are really wearing thin.

I've never worn anything embarrassing in my life. You were inhabiting another planet throughout the 80s per chance?

;)

I was a teenager during the 80s. Need I say more?

Haha
Yes I totally agree with you Blp, I can't stand it when guys wear low rise jeans that cover only half their backsides. I really just want to creep up behind them and pull them up, haha.

I can't actually remember any embarassing outfits... maybe I've just blanked the worse stuff out. All with the exception of:

Parachute pants - anyone remember these?

Mine were plain khaki though...and more baggy!

and also...

My big white furry boots - horrendous!

Mine had 2 fluffy pom poms on...*shudder*

Ohhhh I could list so many things... what with having the types of friends who like to go "OH LETS GO DRESS UP IN THE STUPIDEST THINGS WE CAN FIND AND GO OUT SOMEWHERE! What do you mean? Of course it will be fun!"

The most recent thing was when me and a friend were op-shopping... Great fun for stupid clothes... And I tried on a really small skirt that looked exactly like a lampshade.

Also I just tend to go put on the first clothes I can find... Resulting in some interesting combinations... Especially since a staple piece of clothing in my wardrobe is knee length socks! :D

I don't pay too much attention to the fashion trends even though I am a clothes horse. I just love shopping for clothes!!!. I hate to spend money on something that will shortly be out of style, only to come back years from now.

Lady W: I do remember the parachute pants and will admit to buying one pair. As far as those white boots of yours? "well, all I can say is weren't your feet hot in those ?"

Haha, they were all the craze when they came out...
Anyway, yes they were! But I wore them in the winter, and my feet usually get extremely cold so it was exceedingly comfortable :)
But ugly... Ugly as sin!

No, you don't. I too, was a teenager during the 80's, everything I put on was a fashion faux pas. And don't even get me started on the hair!

No, Scher, I was punky in the eighties and it's weathered well. The kind of people now who are embarrassed about what they wore then were the kinds of people who used to protest at parties when I put on records that are now considered cool.

I have the same urge, Lady W. Or I want to say, 'Oh, pull your trousers up ffs'. It's not quite the same, but there's a young guy at work who perpetually wears a sort of homeboy hat pulled down over half his face. The other day, another guy called out to him, 'We're inside now, you can take your hat off.' It's ridiculous how pleased I was.

Hmmm...I wore my pajamas to school with my crocs.

Function over fashion. :D

Oh yeah, Dori, that would most certainly be considered a fashion faux paux. What was on the pajamas? Were they Star Wars jammies? Or perhaps Scooby Doo? Or Power Rangers? ;)

I wear tie-dye :p

And sometimes I'm guilty of the dark-bra see-thru shirt thingy

People in my school still wear these:

with matching jackets!

No, football players adorn my pajama pants. :D

I wanted to be comfortable. I figure that nothing that I wear at school will improve my image, so what's the point? :D

Mine weren't exactly likes this, mine had pleats:lol:

I wore the heck out of this t shirt:

Everyone had to have a pair of British Knights:

My proudest outfit would have to be my orange, green, red, and blue polka dotted white overall shorts. :bawling:

Dori, football players are a great adornment for jammies but I have a pair with cows on them that I bet are cuter. :p

And Papaya? Would that be leather/vinyl pants with pleats?! Or are they just spandex disco pants because those I could see with pleats. ;)

This is probably my proudest fashion moment, just look at that expression on my face, how pleased with myself do I look?

I have the cutest jammies with pink flamingos and trailers on them.

Yes indeed they were leather pants with pleats..  :( Somehow, they had a little pleating at the top but then got tighter as they went down.

right at this moment, I'm wearing black tights, baggy/cargo men's bermudas (dark khaki-ish with black and purple floral patterning) a dark red turtleneck wooly pullover, white and red Palestinian scarf and dark red Doc Marten's boots  are you sure you really want to see a pic? oh, I forgot to mention the cheap shop belt (stripes in various unmatching shades of pink) and the alien-like blond hair....

edit: I warned you :) (had to take pics of myself in the mirror because my hubby isn't at home)

Sleepy, that actually looks quite good.

Hmmm, concerning the faux pas, I don't think I can remember anything that was hideous that didn't relate to role-playing games or for sheer grotesque element (or both).
From the former category, most things I wore were sort-of-okayish, although some were a bit boring or not very fit for the occasion. Or well, strange at least.
From the latter category, I shall always fondly remember the silver, sparkling, whole-body disco/space suit that I got on my eighteenth birthday. It is a bit small though and quite uncomfortable to put on and wear, but I wore it once playing Santa at one Christmas party. Haven't got any photographs, but well, just imagine me in a silvery tight whole-body disco suit plus a red santa hat. Add a lot of perverse jokes and well...

Hmmm. I like simple clothing, not following the latest trends or anything. Guess that makes me really boring. :p Oh this party I went to a few days back, I put some glittering stars (the stickers that children use) in the region between eyes and eye-brows where eye-shadow is applied as I never put cosmetics and that time my friends had really wanted to see me in something different. So I thought of the stickers as a good idea instead of putting some mascara or eye-shadow. :p And funnily the girls in my year appreciated it a lot, saying that it looked really cool. Now that was something weird. Other than that I don't really remember.

But I'd like to point out that there's a major fashion faux pas being committed daily around the world right now and I just know a lot of men are going to look back on it red-faced: trousers pulled down below the 'hips'. Just stop this now.

I find many of the latest men's fashion really funny. One of them being the practice of keeping long hair which is quite popular where I live. Frankly speaking I find it really funny, wouldn't say dislike it, just find it amusing (oh I don't mean to offend any guy with long hair over here :p). And there is this one of having holes in jeans too...
