What good American author has written fiction or semiautobiographical regarding running the rails, hopping freight cars and so forth in America right after the turn-of-the-century?

Jack London did some of this, but I can't find anywhere that he's written about it. Anybody know where I can look?

Not sure about books but this (www.amazon.com/Emperor-North-Lee-Marvin/dp/B000EXDSCU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1208689892&sr=1-1) is a great movie.

After poking around for a bit I found this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hobo), pretty interesting, scroll down to 'books'. I have read On The Road, though I don't remember him hopping trains, he did do a lot of bumming around.

Yes, Jack Kerouac traveled around but all the while had money in the bank, or checks coming or something. But that's the right idea... thank you.

, one more thing, novels-are-you, the link you gave ultimately points back here to some more up Jack London's work. "The Road and other stories"

this is great, I love London, his points of view and ways of describing feelings and situations are really the best!

Thank you again, novelsRyou,
