Penetration

She glances up into the depths of the night, penetrating that veil of separation
between that which is and that which seeks to be.
As she gazes upon the moon, sitting on its throne, sharing its glory
with the Lord of the Sky, Bringer of Light,
she releases a primordial howl which escapes from the very essence
of her being.
It takes on a shape of its own, an existence which transcends the barriers
of her beastly owner.

It searches the night as it makes its journey
through the woods of this wintery place, coated with a fine white film,
cold to the touch but warms the soul.
What it seeks? It knows not but its love of the wild.

The penetrating glare of the beast turns upon the fleeting howl
as it disappears further into the night,
making its long journey towards the heavens.
She calls it back, but finds herself unable to utter a sound.
The howl, having no concern for its disembodied figure, continues,
unrelenting, upon its aimless voyage home.

On and on, further into the night, the howl begins to slow its pace.
It begins to fade as it dissipates into the cool air above the tree-tops.
It fades into a faint whisper,
fighting for its survival, a trivial battle.
The beast, once more, gazes into the comfort of the moon,
finding solace in its immortality. Suddenly, as if a message from the creator himself
touched her soul and engraved a message in her mind, she realizes her purpose
as she unclenches her jaws.
She tilts her head back and releases a melody of intense meaning,
it reverberates through the darkness as it chases its dream.

I enjoyed that Auriga. I will admit there are a number of little cliches thrughout, but the tone and imagery made up for it. You drew me into an elaborately worked world. :)

The poem is really touching and has some beauty ordinarily unfound in many poems.

It's wonderful. I like it especially when you say:
"She tilts her head back and releases a melody of intense meaning,
it reverberates through the darkness as it chases its dream."
