The Piece of String is Maupassant's, but I'm unsure what the 5 elements, are, or who wrote Misery, unless you are talking about the Chekhov story.

I can only name 4, Language, Character, Plot, Setting.

Sort of a falsely accused bit off grandiosity there... it will probably come to me in the middle of the night
