Towards New Shores--?

At every moment you choose yourself. But do you choose your self? Body and soul contain a thousand possibilities out of which you can build many I's. But in only one of them is there a congruence of the elector and the elected. Only one - which you will never find until you have excluded all those superficial and fleeting possibilities of being and doing with which you toy, out of curiosity or wonder or greed, and which hinder you from casting anchor in the experience of the mystery of life, and the consciousness of the talent entrusted to you which is your I.

Dag Hammarskjöld
From Markings
Translated by Leif Sjöberg and W.H. Auden

I did not know that there was a translation of this book! I read this when I was 15, I got it as a present from the librarian at my school , when I graduated.

One of my favorite qoutes in this book is (my translation) - The furthest journey is the journey inwards.

How nice that finally I find someone else who has read Dag Hammarskjöld! He seems, to me, a neglected inspirational/spiritual writer, comparable to Havelock Ellis and C.S. Lewis' non-fiction, though he never published anything during his lifetime, being a busy politician for Sweden.
Thank you, Isagel, for recommending 'The furthest journey is the journey inwards.' I will page through Markings and try to find it. And now that I know someone else has read his work, perhaps I will post more work of his here, when finding the time.

I hope it´s translated like that, i might have messed it up. If you find it, can you tell me how it is translated? I also remember some almost haiku like poems of his, I´ll see if I can find them.

Btw, and almost unrelated, some friends I have made a habit of translating swedish names to english. Dag Hammarskjöld would be Day Hammershield in english. I find that amusing.
