I'm collecting these. (Everybody needs a hobby.)

Anybody have any to add?

"It is difficult
to get the news from poems
yet men die miserably every day
for lack of what is found there."
--William Carlos Williams

"I write poems to untie myself, to do penance and disappear
Through the upper right-hand corner of things, to say grace." --Charles Wright

"If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry." -–Emily Dickinson

Actually, you don't know where to start in posting clever things said about poetry. Here is a really great example, in essay form, writing by Kay Ryan abourt Robert Frost. Title of essay, "I Demand to Speak with God" http://www.poetryfoundation.org/archive/feature.huml?id=180020
