any ideas?? (english literature)

Hey there!

Has anyone of you ideas on how to connect english literature with portugal? Any connections, such as biographical aspects of some english writers or anything else, would be helpful.
Thing is that I am studying English literature, currently in my homecountry Germany, and I want to move to Portugal. Now I need some good ideas for my motivation paper and for my studies abroad.

You might look into the Portuguese writer, Fernando Pessoa. Pessoa was educated in English and even wrote in English on occasion. You might especially look into the link between Pessoa and the American poet, Whitman (if your studies permit American literature along with English).

you might want to check out William Beckford. He lived in Portugal for a while and wrote Letters from Italy with Sketches of Spain and Portugal
