Newbie here! Anyone know where I can find translations of well known English and American poetry? I live in area with 29 (yes, 29) different home languages for students and would like to encourage common interests in the classroom by assigning same story or poem in each student's home language, then having them discuss differences and nuances in the works. Would love poems, sonnets, plays -- am not picky. I would also love to have Poe, Dickenson, Frost, Sandburg, other English and American poets, Dickens, O. Henry, Shakespeare, various folk tales from different languages, and so on. (Even science fiction!) Would really appreciate free downloads!

Thanks!

It might be easier if you could specify some of the languages.

Yes, if you could specify the country you reside in, it would be helpfull. q1

I am a native English speaker. Really want to help kids learn about each other through the same literature. A way to share and combine thoughts and encourage cross culture dialog. Most common class groups include Spanish, Korean, Russian, Japanese. Also likely to have Chinese, Hmong. Any ideas?

Most classics are translated into most European languages.

A comment on what gets translated: Unfortunately, the more commercially successful the work the more likely it gets translated. Only the Bible and other similar texts are universally translated. There are other prejudices that enable translation but they don't apply here. It might be that you are the most likely translator for certain works.
